Exactly this. I've lived here since 2008 and haven't bothered getting citizenship because I don't have a spare £2k and I have settled status. I resent the hell out of paying it now just to avoid potentially getting deported and split up from my family under a patently insane policy.
this may be insane of me but I don't actually want to apply, on the basis that I almost certainly wouldn't want to stay in a country trying to deport me anyway

Took kids to play basketball earlier, kid who was already there asked to join us. Chatted for a bit, he was 13 and originally from Malawi. Some kids closer to his age turned up so he went off to play football with them. Thought how wholesome the random kids playing with shoes for goalposts thing was

I spend a lot of time Googling dates/timelines and its AI is so so so bad at this. I now automatically assume the AI answer is wrong, it is actively wasting my time.
Incidentally the Google AI thing at the top of the results gave me this, a load of complete nonsense referring mostly to phenomena observed in 2017, before a link to the BBC News piece I took the pic from

The Blue Origin flight showcased the utter defeat of American feminism | Moira Donegan
The trip leaned on a vision of women’s empowerment that is light on substance and heavy on a childlike, girlish silliness

Hegseth calls Jeffrey Goldberg a "deceitful and highly discredited so-called journalist who's made a profession of peddling hoaxes."

Which, if you believe that, seems like a good reason not to include him in your secret war plans group chat?

I support this if only because it will vindicate my decision to never bother getting a UK passport and relying on my Maltese one.
My next piece of geopolitical advice is for Britain and Malta to temporarily merge, as an easy way to reverse Brexit, which looks especially dumb just now.

This was my column on Why Canada should join the EU, from the start of the year.
Polling now shows nearly half of Canadians are in favour.

While I think Canada *actually* becoming a member is still far-fetched, the two sides could aim for a much closer alliance.

Correct.
Mark Carney wins the race to become Liberal leader and next Prime Minister of Canada.

Aside: Canada has the best looking Prime Ministers? Discuss.
