And then be shocked that fans don't want to go to a country where a Mom can get shot in the face and the VP will smear the dead woman.

I don't want to be completely dismissive of the 51st state stuff, but I think people really lose sight of how much of a vassal state we already are, and how we risk entrenching that further in the digital realm especially.

Not to diminish this, but I think the greatest threat to Canada is that Meta, Google, X and other tech giants exert sufficient control of our information ecosystem while siphoning huge profits out of Canada, and they use their information control to foment opposition to any attempt to rein them in.

This isn't just a casual observation. Fascism scholars have long made this point. It's why calling them "weird" was a more effective strategy than talking about the prices of eggs. Fascism is an aesthetic political movement - you need to make people feel embarassed and horrified by it.
one of the most effective weapons we have against fascism is mockery, especially when its really funny
It occurs to me all the yelling at ICE in MPLS isn't merely funny. Getting made fun of like this is awful for morale. ICE is losing field officers faster than it can wave them through training, and a big part of it is how little of this these little weasels can take.

Having a transportation system that results in violent death is not normal. This is a policy failure. This is all 100% preventable.

The members of FFSS are battered, we are bruised, we are broken, we are bone-deep exhausted, and we will NEVER stop fighting until this senseless violence is ended.

“Survey after survey has shown that business owners overestimate how many customers drive to their stores vs walking or biking. In a 2012 Los Angeles study, more than half of the store owners on the bike-laned part of the boulevard thought most of their customers drove. The actual number was 15%.”
I read all the studies on the economic impact of bike lanes. Here's what I learned.
Research proves that bike lanes are good for business. So why do so many stores and restaurants still oppose them?

I've oft wondered about our decision not to put photos of our kid on the internet (to the grumpiness of some close relatives and others who want more - i always send em a batch privately when they ask) but this kinda does away with any doubts about it being the right call.
If you're a normal person taking bathroom or makeup selfies bc you feel cute, you should just stop. Return to tradition, share it with your friends on group texts. Any public photo is now fuel for the Porn Machine.

If your career/hobby involves sharing pics of yourself, it just sucks.

4. If you’ve never ridden a bike for transportation (as opposed to recreation)—and especially if you oppose safe bike lanes—spend a week riding a bike to work and other places you’d normally drive to. On one of those days, take your kids with you. Think about how you felt on every part of the trip.
