I understand. We understand.

We understand the importance that Europe had in your lives and the sense of biting loss for many of you.

We understand what Brexit has done.

They continue to think that if they ask for the same things that May demanded but without the threats and associated hubris somehow they will be successful

Bring back Monsieur Barnier, he had a good way with words to explain the reality

That's so spot on Niall.
The GE campaign was so dishonest: both Tories & Labour & Libdems to a lesser extent didn't want to talk about EU/Brexit or black holes in the budget & the media was complicit. The SNP mentioned both non stop but we're cut off in the tv debates clearly to help out Labour.

Labour was dishonest also about the need to raise taxes.

However they have broken than election pledge.

But on Europe?

Nope.

I have the feeling the “Reset” will achieve very little.

The problem is that the current UKG needs the same thing the 2016/18 version needed

Access to the SM and CU without fully reciprocating the four freedoms especially the movement of people

The 2019 UKG pretended full access wasn’t needed in order to get the drama over and done with but that was

When UK says it want's value for money now, and didn't get it as a member before Brexit, then the question is why do all other members stay? Not only did UK get VFM but also special carve outs in multiple agreements. This special treatment for UK is frankly tiresome, old and embarrassing.

Key point on the EU-UK Reset talks: The UK has deliberately chosen not to build popular support for the "Reset". This means that its heart is not in it. The slightest wind blows this off-track.

In that case, we as EU should accept that UK is not ready yet, end the Reset, and try again later.
That brings up a real risk: what if UKG isn't in a position politically to make the push necessary to keep things on track? What if it doesn't care? Some of this reset looks like a façade to be seen to be doing something, to keep pro-Europeans happy, while not upsetting the Brexit status quo.

I have no recent insight particularly, but that description of UKG chicanery and trying to leverage what had been agreed chimes loudly with earlier in the year.

Keep an eye. Not saying 🇪🇺 will walk, but expect suspension unless the UK gets its house in order

A 🧵

I have to say, this is earlier than I had expected. But if the UK wants to benefit from being inside the SM, it has to contribute.

As for wanting to pay half as much as others for Erasmus, where do they get off?

The Uk chose Brexit. Stop asking others to pay their way.

Online violence against women, for want of a better word, is being perpetrated by fascists, Nazis, religious fundamentalists and incels. It will destroy the quality of our government and democracy., which depends on getting pluralist voices into decision-making.

For information, I wrote to Caroline Lucas (former UK MP)

Who did you write to?

1
We need to fix the problem of online violence against women as a society to protect our democracy

But for today, why not write to a woman in public life - media, science, sport, academia, but esp. politics - and tell her you appreciate her work.

So, this is a problem, certainly, but it's not entirely within @europeanmovement.co.uk 's control. So some leeway there.

But it's not the main problem.

The main problem that EM UK has is that they are virtually unknown, their profile is nonexistent outside of a small circle on SM

If Mike was ever actually interviewed on a mainstream TV show they would need to spend 8 minutes of the allotted 10 explaining what the EM actually is

They don’t have

Wouldn’t be surprising. The EU just doesn’t have time for repetitive negotiating sessions in which the UK still maintains it has some special status halfway between third country and member state that entitles it to a special deal. This approach was tested to destruction in the Brexit negotiations.

The “red lines” always were nonsensical and self defeating

Having an open mind and being open to debate and possibly changing your mind if circumstances change is what a sensible Government would do
Wow. Just wow. We can safely say that leaving Europe is very bad for your economic health.

So what are UKG doing about it, and why is the answer not dropping the May-Johnson redlines?

Let me also add that anything resulting in the UK showing a true “mea culpa” at the doorsteps of Brussels is rooted in the EU continuing the EU’s no nonsense hardline approach towards slackening the strong hand on the UK’s Brexit.

The rules must 100% remain the 💯% the rules. No special benefits! 🤷🏻‍♂️
