Contact your representatives and let them know public libraries are essential ☎️ A recent Executive Order calls for the elimination of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the nation’s only federal agency for U.S. libraries. ⤵️

Some advice on activism and feeling less helpless:

You probably cannot make a big change by yourself. That's okay. Find a thing you can do--either joining an existing thing or starting something small that you can sustain with resources you have--and start there.

Hi, we are an alternative to Amazon-owned Audible 👋🏻 With us, you select the independent bookshop you want to support (we have 3,000+ partners across the globe), and we share profits from your purchase with them.

We're also employee-owned and a registered Social Purpose Corporation.

did you enjoy creating it? did you have fun? does it make you happy thinking about it and sharing it? then that's it. you did it. you found the secret sauce. "was that a waste of time?" of course not, fuckface. expressing yourself creatively is always worthwhile. you're doing great

🧵This country has a deep history of resisting & rejecting oppression. It isn’t often taught or acknowledged.

We need to know. We need to learn from our elders, ancestors, & political forebears. Now.

A thread about that. I will inevitably miss many examples; pls reply or QT with additions.

ANYWAY, did you know there's an extension you can put on Chrome that will connect with your local library system and when you go look at a book, say on AMZ, it will tell you if that book exists in the library system and if it's available?

It's literally called Library Extension.

Just going to put this here. It's 2x4", the same size as an Avery 5163 label, which fits nicely on lampposts. Just saying.

Took 5 min today and whipped up simple designs in Canva. Sized to fix 2 x 4" and 1 x 1 5/8" mailing labels. Print them by the sheet and stick them up: lampposts, parking meters, sidewalks. (Just don't be a jerk.)

Remind people this isn't normal & they're not alone, and encourage them to act.

like...writers...you can't rail against A/I books then turn around and use A/I covers

artists, why would you denounce A/I art but casually use ch@tgpt

same goes for A/I voices and music

we are ALL at risk of getting exploited -- we shouldn't be sabotaging each other and making it easier for them

I have done short videos that I called The Hot Coffee where I post hot takes about writing "rules" people think are real because "everyone" says them

well now I wrote a Hot Coffee blog post about asking for encouragement or hope when querying. I'm offering a different thing: strategy & actions.
The Hot Coffee, issue 1: Hope in the time of querying.

Seriously, creative folks: Don't be afraid to let people know your stuff is out there for them, or worry that "now is not the time for that." People are stressed and freaked out and looking for the things that will give them a moment of rest and joy. It is EXACTLY the time for what we do. Tell them.

I'm glad that America is doing real classic end of empire stuff. A king who is visibly losing his mind declaring a war based on a dream he had. Greedy courtiers feuding over access to the treasury. Some looks are timeless.
