The way to end all this is for the EU to immediately get hyper-aggressive with sanctioning and tariffing every American they can find.

The man has worse approvals than at any point in his prior term plus it’s an election year. It’s all a bluff. Call it!

I am reminded of my Grand Theory of Italian politics, according to which one of the most prized qualities in a leader is non rompere i coglioni (a test that Meloni and Draghi pass, but Renzi and Salvini don't, making the former much more successful and popular than the latter).

Nothing projects strength as breaking up the strongest and most successful defensive military alliance in the world
Bessent on Greenland: "Peace through strength. Make it part of the US and there will not be a conflict because the US right now, we're the hottest country in the world, we're the strongest country in the world. Europeans project weakness. The US projects strength."

Im schlimmsten Fall eine Kapitulation gegenüber Trump & Co. Sonst, einfach nur hochgradig schlechtes Timing.

China and Russia must be having a field day. They are the ones who benefit from divisions among Allies.

If Greenland’s security is at risk, we can address this inside NATO.

Tariffs risk making Europe and the United States poorer and undermine our shared prosperity. (1/2)

If Donald Trump thinks that Denmark can't do anything once Russia and China are in the process of taking Greenland, then that must mean that he fundamentally doesn't believe in NATO art. 5.

AI use is gonna be like plastic surgery: when it's obvious and over the top will incur some stigma, when done well, you won't even know.
You can, but it's going to be demo and social network based. There's definitely going to be a major stigma towards being a Clippy addict in a lot of white collar professional circles.

People really need to learn how to spot a diplomat in action and judge it accordingly.
Rutte on Trump 🫠 you really can’t make this up, so here’s a video:

I personally, as a citizen of the European Union, fully support a full-blown trade war with the United States, @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu

We just need to do what the Chinese did and make Donald Trump back down with our economic power.
“It is a Great Honor for me to send you this letter in that it demonstrates the strength and commitment of our Trading Relationship”

Says Donald Trump as he dumps a 30% tariff on the EU

All things considered this is a good message to Trump. Was it well received? Who knows. Either he posted it because he wanted to show how great people find him, or he posted it to make fun of Rutte.

But I am wondering how many staff members were working on this and how many drafts were created.
There is the need to keep the US engaged. And then, there is also this.

RISING LION and MIDNIGHT HAMMER have not slowed the Iranian program nearly as much as the JCPOA. We hold diplomacy to much higher standards than bombing. The same people who endlessly complained about the JCPOA "sunsetting" are now happy to delay Iran's bomb by much less. 15/17

Why am I so unimpressed by these strikes? Israel and the US have failed to target significant elements of Iran's nuclear materials and production infrastructure. RISING LION and MIDNIGHT HAMMER are tactically brilliant, but may turn out to be strategic failures. 🧵 1/17

Most students are probably very happy when the theory they learn at uni can be applied to current events. I dont think this is the case with people studying security studies. If that happens, it usually means that things are going horribly wrong.

One of the few "winners" of the US strike on Iranian nuclear facilities is undoubtedly North Korea. They are probably high-fiving each other in Pyongyang, because getting a nuke was clearly a good decision.

Yesterday, Trump testily told a reporter, “I may do it. I may not do it. I mean, nobody knows what I’m gonna do.” This isn’t calculated ambiguity. It’s the confused babbling of an ignorant, pathological narcissist who doesn’t even have the “concepts of a plan” and just wants the world’s eyes on him.

The last thing Putin wants right now is pictures of him and Zelensky shaking hands. That was not what his suggestion about negotiations in Turkey on Thursday was about. What Russia wants is low-level negotiations that can go on for months and delay Western decision making.
