I like large rocks and small proteins.
BIF fellow doing cryoEM+Protein Design in the Llorca lab ❄️🔬
Doppio is a great tool (more of a toolbelt actually) to go all the way from micrographs to deposition!! (and the more people using it, the greater it gets)

Lab’s first paper is out!! We show the first structures of #Asgard #chromatin by #cryo-EM 🧬❄️
Asgard histones form closed and open hypernucleosomes. Closed are conserved across #Archaea, while open resemble eukaryotic H3–H4 octasomes and are Asgard-specific. More here: www.cell.com/molecular-ce...

The peer-reviewed version of our article on the flagellum filament assembly is out!
A masterpiece from duo extraordinaire Kailin and Rosa, and an incredibly productive collaboration with Marc Erhardt and Morgan Beeby.
The structure of the complete extracellular bacterial flagellum reveals the mechanism of flagellin incorporation - Nature Microbiology
Cryo-electron microscopy analysis of the extracellular flagellum structure, including the hook–filament junction and filament cap complex, reveals mechanisms of flagellin incorporation into the growin...

The amazing Sofia Lövestam initiated the below project, when she became interested in the vault particles that we sometimes observe in #cryoEM images of brain-derived #amyloid filaments.

Cryo-EM structure of the vault from human brain reveals symmetry mismatch at its caps
The vault protein is expressed in most eukaryotic cells, where it is assembled on polyribosomes into large hollow barrel-shaped complexes. Despite its widespread and abundant presence in cells, the bi...

Mature #HIV-1 contains >2000 copies of “spacer peptide 2”, but we didn’t know why. We now see that SP2 binds the matrix protein and triggers the change into its mature arrangement. Summary video from @margotriggi.bsky.social
