So this woman made a tiny bit of paint with yellowcake and someone else made a bunch of videos, doxxed her, and reported her to the NRC over it.

Aaaaand she responded by making a 30 min video mostly about nuclear power and radiation, in consultation with an expert. Good for her.
tiktoker fearmongering led to someone who seems like they make cool vids about art...and some good info about nuclear energy!

Let's make "Ma'am this is a map store" into the positive counterpart to "Sir this is a Wendy's"
A mom just came in SO EXCITED to find a map store bc her son would LOVE it.
She tries to be coy. "My son is... Really into maps. Real special kid."

I'm like, ma'am, this is a map store. Half my customers are on the spectrum. I have a trains and transit section. You're among friends.

A PhD student in my group brilliantly & successfully defended his dissertation today. As an advisor, nothing beats that moment when the committee finishes discussion, I open the door, shake their hand, and call them by their new title.

Congratulations Dr. Park!

The one good thing about our crumbling infrastructure is it makes the trolley problem irrelevant. You want me to pull the lever and choose who dies? Buddy, the trolley is experiencing delays, I've got time to untie everybody.

Spinach and goat cheese stuffed chicken with crispy “skin” (made out of potatoes) with a cheese stuffed potato sheet and grilled asparagus. We also had confit chili garlic and brown sage butter. For desert we made black pepper ice cream with lemon waffle cookies.

Happy World Nuclear Energy Day!

Dec. 2 marks the anniversaries of both the first human induced self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction (as dramatized below)

AND

the day the first nuclear power plant reached the same milestone at the Shippingport Atomic Power Station in Pennsylvania.

OTD (12/2) 82 years ago CP-1 became the first self sustained human-made nuclear chain reaction.

I haven’t made it to the site where they built CP-1, but one summer I did hike with some friends to where CP-2 is buried (it wasn’t that hard, it’s just not on the path).

Happy December 2nd, a day that marks the first man-made nuclear chain reaction (CP-1, 1942) and the first chain reaction in the first purely civilian nuclear power plant exactly 15 years later (Shippingport, 1957).
