If a self-identifying “left of centre” government with a parliamentary majority of more than a hundred seats won’t defend a vital public service institution you really have to ask why it’s in government at all.
The reaction to the Panorama edit has been nothing short of hysterical. Yes the BBC has some impartiality problems. But its biggest isn't the one you think.

New piece from me.

The full transcript of Zohran Mamdani's acceptance speech is very much worth reading in full. Even if you don't agree with your politics, it's very beautifully put together.

Real shame we couldn't get to these motions today which we had prepped for

Proud of my LD and Green colleagues for successfully voting down the useless Tory windbag's motion to remove the congestion charge (Tory, Lab and Reform in cahoots...)
And that’s the end of the meeting, with no time for motions on Abingdon Reservoir, pavement weed clearance, mental health, or community cohesion. Thanks for following along!

Yep, Labour voting with the Tories and Reform to scrap Oxford's Congestion Charge after 6 days, without bothering to wait and see any results.

Given early signs indicate that the buses are speeding up (but not confirmed yet), this is directly opposing improved buses.
The vote on Oxford’s Congestion Charge is taken and goes broadly along party lines.

For removing the charge: 22 (Con, Lab, Ind)
Against removing the charge: 36 (LibDem, Green, Henley)
Abstain: 2 (Will Boucher-Giles, LibDem for Chesterton; Emma Markham, Green for Shrivenham)

sorry everyone I’m just having a lot of fun with the congestion charge debate because look I live outside the ring road in a village with not great bus service and I personally think the CC is one of the best things to happen to Oxford this year

why are people on the left using "populist" in a positive way now, you shouldn't want your politicians to be populists, "populism" isn't good

Four days to go for this consultation: letstalk.oxfordshire.gov.uk/east-st-hele...

If you have a few minutes to respond positively to this scheme which will make it dramatically nicer to walk, wheel, cycle, scoot in my town, I would very much appreciate it

My long video included below

Thank you!
I made a detailed explainer video (with Q&A) for the proposed new junction in Abingdon to prioritise walking, cycling, wheeling, and generally make it a more pleasant town centre

It won't work on the hardcore antis but I couldn't bear the lies going around!

The uproar from conservatives, Fox etc if Obama or Biden had unilaterally (and possibly illegally) tore down a near century old part of the White House, to replace with a ballroom, would (rightly) have been endless. Historic level vandalism.

Quite brilliant. Transformational.

And again, changes only possible due to the reduced congestion the operator expects from the congestion charge (which the Oxford East Labour MP Anneliese Dodds is trying to prevent)
A bus service every 7-8 minutes for Barton, every 7-8 minutes for Kidlington and Oxford Parkway, and every 5 minutes for Blackbird Leys will kick in from 30 November with a raft of timetable changes by Stagecoach. Night buses will operate on all these routes until 3.30am on Friday/Saturday.

I've never met this person, but I have been subjected to his bloody awful opinions on transport policy....
Jeremy Mogford, Oxford hotelier and chairman of Oxford Business Action Group, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his 100-year old mother Patricia Mogford. The 77-year old was charged together with 71-year old Sarah Pickering from Guildford.

This is brilliant. Unlocking historic S106 monies - hitherto tied up in bureaucracy - and showing risk aversion to do so.

Pleased with my colleagues!
Cllr Neil Fawcett begins by praising OCC officers’ work: “It’s been easy to underestimate how much headache-inducing work is involved in a project like this.” He mentions the Milton Heights cycle bridge and the Milton Park to Abingdon cycle route, which this money will support.
