My main takeaway from analyzing software development practices is that we like to focus on our tools, but the problems are all human.

If your CI magically became twice as fast tomorrow the vast majority of you would notice no difference in code velocity.

hahahahaha I knew it. "I feel very confident that he can do a very good job. I think he's gonna surprise some conservative people, actually. And some very liberal people he won't surprise because they already like him."
Trump in a room with a very charismatic person results in like half a day of Trump agreeing with everything that person said, so this has the potential to be very, very funny.

Separately, I know real estate agents don’t traffic in data but it’s really frustrating to walk into conversations and know more about a property and its comparables than they do.

I should be handed this chart for a building as part of the formalities in “hi, my name is Foo, let’s go look!”
Hong Kong's housing costs baselined to the CCPI tells quite a story.

These are unit prices of comparable units in one particular building. Lighter dots are lower floors.

In "purchasing-power-per-dollar" (housing priced in hamburgers) these apartments are the cheapest since 2010.

We (Hong Kong) do not regularly invest in our own tech solutions. A significant majority are tendered out.

Further, salaries in the technology sector are significantly lower than other locales in an industry that doesn’t have any borders.

This outcome is very unsurprising.
SecurityScorecard, a US security firm for which GovHK is a client, gave Hong Kong’s gov’t organizations an average cybersecurity rating of D (69%)
• An org with a C, D, or F rating is 5.4× more likely to suffer a consequential data breach than ones with an A or B

Performance optimization, only ever four options:

1. Do less work.
2. Do the same amount of work, faster.
3. Do the same amount of work, more parallel.
4. Do the same amount of work, but at a time nobody cares how long it takes.

“We have travel at an appreciable fraction of light speed in this universe, but we fight wars with small arms.”

No, you don’t. If you’re fighting your only goal is to figure out how to stop some large interstellar object traveling at an appreciable fraction of light speed from hitting your planet.

Using a CCTLD for id.me (used for login to the IRS!) is absolutely unbelievable.

That should have been immediately and permanently disqualifying.

Hong Kong Department of Health is correctly responding with "public health policies and medical advice must be based on scientific evidence" to the anti-science health policies pushed by conspiracy theorist RFK Jr.

Unfortunate that we even have to issue this press release.
