Tired: rooting for your own country in international competitions.

Wired: Rooting for Nepal to win in international competitions just to troll the person who has to raise flags during the ceremony.

What is being protected here? That’s right: the administrator’s fragile grasp on authority.
Minnesota: reinvents the police scanner, a famously secure communications channel, and uses it for rapid response.

Organizer: No, not like that.

Not to be hyperbolic, but there are a couple of restaurants near me which—if they apply for this—it will be life-changing.

Combine dog walk, a meal, and kid shuttling? That’s a full extra hour of sleep.

A bunch of people on this site want to cosplay like it’s Hong Kong in 2019 without understanding that as many as 25% of Hong Kong residents attended a single march and the government was worried about losing an election where popular opinion had to be nearly 80% in opposition to the government.

Technically possible: Qing-Mexican.

“No, I’m not a Chinese-American, my family ‘migrated’ from Toisaan during the Qing Dynasty and have been in California longer than it has been a state.”

This one feels like Chotiner already had a dozen traps prepared and baited him into them.

In more places than his other interviews he is talking over the subject.

Feels like there was actual motive from Chotiner in this assisted character self-assassination.

Tear gas is the least-effective tool for law enforcement. It creates visuals that are highly advantageous for protestors, while being easy to neutralize.

@kjhealy.co in case you want a feather for your cap, this is the fraud I discovered because I read your article however many years ago.

I think HK$100,000,000 (US12,800,000) is about 10% of the total fraud, but I’m have to synthesize the edge data because I don’t have internal data access.
HK$100,000,000 saved.

July 2023: I discovered Hong Kong's Technology Voucher Programme (TVP), captured all public data, and identified likely fraud.

March 2025: The Collective turned this TVP data into an investigative piece.

Today: ICAC arrested 18 people connected to one TVP fraud ring.

Also, this is how I found out @kjhealy.co is on here.

And can’t be trusted on sandwich spreads.
Useful for understanding me, this is a load bearing post for me.

So, when you talk opsec, I roll my eyes.

And when I see networkable data (Hong Kong’s TVP fraud) I immediately apply basic network analysis to it.

So apparently I was right to shittalk m00t this week because it's been revealed that his boneheaded decision to establish /pol/ and subsequently ruin the website was allegedly born out of a one-on-one meeting with Jeffery Epstein.

Why do I have to be steeped in decades of Internet lore to understand current events?

GamerGate is just /pol is just SA hentai.
I think at this point it’s pretty conclusive that the Internet was a mistake.

For those of you who did not know, Gloomhaven is a cooperative game. Now read the tweet again.
Do I think it’s possible that Will and I could get into a twenty minute long, worryingly heated argument about interpreting a rule in Gloomhaven? Absolutely.

Most absurd part about all opsec nonsense is that you will probably screw it up. And when you do, all of the steps that you took to make yourself invisible often make you extremely identifiable.
the thing is that it is extremely easy to fuck up undetectability, which then makes your defense indistinguishability. if you are a person who needs undetectability (anyone who thinks they do and isn't building antiarmor weapons is wrong), then a larger mass of indistinguishables is helpful.
the correct way to understand the protest opsec stuff is that its a shibboleth for guys who attend left wing protests regularly that lets them exert status over recruits. i would regard it as pretty benign if these people werent actively discouraging people from getting involved.

There are at least four people who contributed to reaching the point of having The Collective report.

That was almost certainly the trigger for the ICAC investigation.

I’m proud of y’all.

I follow the housing market in a particular complex in HK really closely and it’s a weird mess right now.

The span of listing “unit” prices is as wide as the peak of the market in 2021, to 10% over what it was last month.

No tickets left if you got in line after that.
