26,000 deaths a week is absolutely unfathomable. Like I remember it happening, but it’s still hard to imagine.

And so many people who didn’t die are now disabled from the effects of long covid.

The collective trauma will stick with us for a long time.
We're overdue for the winter wave but these have been tapering off over time too

Jan 2021 peak: ~26,000 deaths per week
Jan 2022 peak: ~21,000
Jan 2023 peak: ~4,000
Jan 2024 peak: ~2,600
Jan 2025 peak: ~1,000

While Trump’s second term has been defined by gross overreach, incompetence, and chaos, the State Department has largely gone about its business without drawing controversy.

But that’s the problem—Rubio’s work this year should be controversial. trib.al/5VzTDFb
Marco Rubio Is Not the Adult in the Room. He’s the Warmonger.
Every single senator eagerly confirmed their former colleague to be secretary of state, but he is not at all the moderating force that they thought he’d be.

President Trump continues to insist there has been “no crime” since deploying the National Guard—unfounded assertions that have left real victims feeling utterly forgotten. trib.al/d3Cb306

Homicides rates in D.C. have gone down, but it doesn’t seem the National Guard has had anything to do with it.

If the US invested in child care and had national policies like paid leave comparable to other industrialized countries, we would generate $775 billion of economic activity a year. The question should not be, “how can we afford to do this?” The question is, “how can we afford not to?” Let’s do this.
Most New Yorkers can’t afford childcare.

Zuckerburg is paying only $190M to settle an $8B lawsuit by FB shareholders for the Cambridge Analytica crime.

$8B would’ve been 3% of his net worth, and $190M is .08%. ~$75 for ordinary working people.

We've learned in the past decade or so that forensic science and behavioral psychology are basically made up. Meanwhile, medical science turned AIDS into a manageable condition, developed a vaccine for a global pandemic, and is reversing Alzheimer's in mice
Reminder that years ago it was found out that the FBI straight up made up a whole bunch of fake forensic sciences, plural. People have gone to jail and been executed due to literally pseudoscience.

Hair forensics, for instance, is totally nonsense.

They admitted it.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.
