TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

My friend Mark Mardell was chucked off his Turkish Airlines flight at the weekend because he had Parkinson’s and his son had asked for assistance for him. (He’s written about it as a public post on Facebook but the link is proving hard to share outside,)

A day of deep shame for the UK.

Once we fought fascism.

Today we wined and dined and put on an absurd show for one.

I do not have words for the disgust I feel to the core of my soul.

But I salute all those who protested, and who feel the same.

That banqueting table at W.C. was so crammed with flowers; ferns and frippery that there seemed to be no room for the food or the diners’ plates.
Perhaps they ordered in cod, chips and mushy peas all round from the local chippy and folk could eat their meals straight off the paper?Yes, that’d be it

I've written to Keir Starmer, Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage, urging them to join me in condemning Elon Musk's dangerous remarks inciting violence yesterday.

As leaders, we must stand together and make clear Musk will face serious consequences for these actions.

It’s taken 23 years and $890 million but a Scottish company you’ve never heard of believes it has created the first safe and affordable drug which can slow the progression of Alzheimer’s. But will the UK’s medicines regulator give it the green light?
