I wrote a book about a boy in Charleston who defeats a Confederate demon. If you need a bit of hope, pick it up!

It has a great audiobook too!

Last night I hosted my schools first family literacy night. It was a bright spot in what’s been a dark year. I was honored to have a local author Latrice McGlothin join us too with her book Hello Coco! I’m grateful to all the authors who donated signed books and swag. So many kids went home happy!

I had the honor of reading the ARC and yes, this needs to be read by ALL!
Normally I'm on here suggesting you pick up our History Smashers books for your kids.

But this one? It follows the history of how we interact with and care for our planet, from the first humans to control fire to our current climate crisis.

Maybe consider buying a copy to give your parents, too.

Kudos to Michael Wolff for his truthful and insightful and not at all flattering look at how we got ourselves into the drama we are in today and a glaring behind the scenes look at 🤡 and his crew #notmypresident

It was so much fun having a read aloud of Bitsy Bat Team Star from @kazwindness.bsky.social today! It was extra special that my boys got to join and Ty even got to ask her a question! We love Bitsy and all her unique friends 💕🦇

The Trump administration has placed two top security chiefs at the U.S. Agency for International Development on leave after they resisted turning over classified material in restricted areas to Elon Musk’s staffers. America, please stand with us—we are fighting to defend this country!

The Trump administration is scrubbing the CDC’s website of documents on reproductive rights issues, sexual health, intimate partner violence, and more.

I'm trying to save them.

You can find the deleted docs at cdcguidelines.com - I'll be adding more over the weekend.

This is what the government did with 120K+ Japanese Americans in 1942.

I know. I was there in those camps.

To recap, Trump:

-Forced out the FAA chief at Musk's insistence
-Imposed a hiring freeze that reportedly included air traffic controllers
-Fired the TSA head and gutted a key aviation safety committee
-Blamed the DCA crash on DEI

This is disastrous leadership.

Happy book birthday @chrislhayes.bsky.social for The Sirens’ Call. Reading is resistance! I also got Make Trouble by Cecil Richards today as we can all take lessons in leadership from a strong woman who faced a lot of hate for the work she did.

What can you do about book banning? How can you support essential public institutions of democracy like public libraries and public schools? Want to understand why "school choice" is an outright lie?

I've got OVER FOUR YEARS of those answers and more in this pinned thread.
A massive thread of resources, history, information, and material to help you not only fight and understand book censorship but protect the incredible democratic institutions of public libraries and public education.

This is updated regularly!

We supported our local #library yesterday! Jax got 5 books about space and Ty had to be convinced that he doesn’t have to borrow the whole library at one time. Now more than ever it’s so important to support your library system. We are making a bimonthly commitment to visit!

Tyler and I enjoyed learning more about #lunarnewyear last night by reading Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas. Very cute spin on Goldilocks and the 3 bears. He really wanted to make the turnip cake recipe at the back. Love my tiny reader chef 🥰

Jax and I really liked this book! I felt like I was reading about him when it started with a kid being bored by everything until they discovered the curious why. My buddy is also extremely curious about all topics & I love seeing that side of him. You’re only bored if you choose to be!

Incredibly needed into today’s world - although it’s written with young adults in mind, it’s truly something everyone who cares about learning the truth needs to read and digest. I’m excited to learn how to make sure I’m not taken into propaganda and only read and share what is actually happening.
