All I can say is that this is not the year to send your kids to the military. I don’t care how many years of JROTC they have.

Today’s #Kwanzaa principle is NIA, purpose. It’s the most difficult principle for me to grasp but I can say that my purpose has been to be a storyteller, making sure Black American history, culture, caring and imagination is available for kids and teens to enjoy.

I’m proud of that.

Introducing myself in 4 essays! This is where you’ll find that most elusive of creatures, a Black American agented speculative fiction writer in the wild. Here is where Black American culture is front & center & afrofuturism, literature & joy are mandates for survival.

Just a lil’ bit of culture

Once the fed govt starts to recognize any black cultural tradition, it becomes less powerful, see the waning of #kwanzaa

Some of it is bc of the fall of pan-Africanism & some bc of issues w/ the founder

Either way I have 2 articles that help us to see forward

it is the second day of #Kwanzaa, Kujichagulia , which focuses on self determination and for me that also means revolution and reimagining. Here are a few books that you can pick up today and this week. #booksky #blackbooksky

In honor of the 1st day of Kwanzaa I’m sharing my essential Black Family Library selections. I know someone has a Barnes & Noble gift card burning a hole in their pocket.
Also, I’ve linked the books to a Black owned bookstore if you DON’T have a gift card. #umoja

Someone whispered the plot to the hunger games to that man and then headlines. #patriotgames

Once he gets the idea that the average citizen can win money & prizes for turning people into the government (Running Man) or he turned death row into a pay-per-view sport (Chain Gang All Stars) it’s over.

Creativity is the one thing they can't buy. They can wash it in legalese and contracts, but there STILL isn't any product, potion, or incantation that can make you into a portrait artist if you don't practice and have a spoonful of talent.

Now they want to convince us that spoonful is overrated.
I have grown to believe that excessive wealth does something to your brain that is analogous to a serious head injury
