This, to me, is what artists owe to the world in an indoor, screen-saturated age. If people are going to experience the world second hand, fair enough. Let it not be third hand or fourth hand.
Nano banana can still not do steller's jays. Total California erasure. It probably makes redwood cones into pinecones or some shit too.

Every chocolate sold publicly has too much sugar in it. To get the good stuff you have to order online, go to weird boutiques, or the baking aisle.

I love hot chocolate and cannot purchase it from nearly any store. They are all too sweet.

A lot of people got real mad at this.

Non-convex loss landscapes have "horns" and as we all know horns are the devil, so if you aren't converging to a unique global minimum your immortal soul is at risk.
SVMs are the only moral type of machine learning, which is why they’re still taught in ML classes. Unlike next token prediction, they are inherently good

It makes some sense why Bitcoin would go up while the meme was still spreading. I don't get what would cause it to go up now. Surely the meme has already reached everyone?
The world's largest and most important cryptocurrency is down $40,000 from an all-time high a month ago. And since it has literally zero intrinsic value there is no way to predict where a price support could kick in and the market would rally around it.

It's just HODL every day forever.

I think it is actually quite common for popular online posters to have a bigger audience than an average member of Congress.
Nobody's saying online posters have more accountability than elected Democrats. It's that they have *some* accountability, i.e., greater than zero, which adds up over many accounts, and the problem is that accounts with large followings like Internet Hippo seem to believe it is zero.

On one hand, a log plot is the only sensible way to represent trends over orders of magnitude. On the other hand, everyone underestimates how off you have to be for a log plot to be falsified. You have to be off by more than orders of magnitude.

You need a solid understanding of quantum mechanics to answer kids' questions surprisingly early.

You see, when you are very small, you have to check out your reflection in a very tiny mirror.
Earlier today, I was notified that someone was at my door.

This is who it was:

Is Leviathan the most memetically powerful book cover of all time? I can't even think of a contender.
Replace the B-52 with the Leviathan guy and then it is more clear what the stakes are. Yes, you are voting for who has a monopoly on violence. What did you think you were doing?

I resent retail music now. I don't want to hear rock music from my teens at home depot. I don't want to hear christmas music before thanksgiving at target. If physical retail were actually humanized, it would play whatever the employees want to listen to.

Internet horror is of a meme that kills you quickly. It resonates because of all the memes that are killing us slowly.

The truth is I would much prefer a train to a waymo, but San Jose's VTA is the literal worst transit system in the world. It would take me 4 hours to get to work on it because it averages 13 miles an hour and snakes all over the place.

The way one ought to react to a triage decision in the hospital is usually the opposite of the way people react. You do not want to be a patient that the medical system considers high priority.

If this makes sense to you, you are way above your recommended daily allowance of a particular subspace of media.

Perhaps we had the physical and mental ability to make stone tools all along, and the physical tools are actually a record of the development of language because we could teach each other. They're memes cut from stone.
Is our self-conception as homo faber / "tool-using animals" just because stone endures better than behavior?

If we had ethnographic records of australopithecines, H. erectus, &c, would all the stages between simian communication and "language" add up to a story more fascinating than flint?

The chimpanzee here cannot escape the Gom Jabbar, proving that he is an animal. Can you?
Chimpanzees use 22 types of tools in the wild but they are capable of doomscrolling like the rest of us.

This video of Sugriva using Instagram is shocking because it's so similar to how humans use social media--engaging with content that triggers our emotions, like images of our friends and foes.

We're all scared of what our kids our turning into, or what kids "out there" are turning into even if not our own. We'll believe anything.
Nice insight, well distilled. I think the core idea bleeds out of the sci-fi genre - news reports of the knockout game seem to exist in the same space. There’s a real itch to be scratched
There's a whole category of (genuinely terrifying) science fiction that basically boils down to, "What if the 6-7 meme was evil?"
