Cats are a lot.
The dog had a playful moment with a neighbor dog and had a nice little mutual nose-sniff moment with one of the cats, today. I think moving to a new place, recently, has been good for everyone.

A couple days after this piece was published, I went to my local TDOR. I had lost a local friend that year to suicide and they were going to honor her that night.

The small gathering was touching. I cried through my friend's commemoration and choked up each time one of the women I wrote about...
Read this piece I contributed to in 2017. This piece, talking with the friends and families of murdered Black trans women, still haunts me to this day.

Pieces like this are just not printed anymore.

So far in 2017, 21 trans people have been reported as murdered. These are their life stories.

This digital memorial built by @transequality.bsky.social is so impressive because it summons our humanity. It documents those who died too soon, yet those stories are full of life and passion.

1. Nearly every transgender person walks this earth knowing people like us who are no longer with us.

In writing about transgender people every day, I hold in my heart the people who are now our ancestors, and I try to bring their light forward.

These are the people I'm remembering today.

I had a lovely chat with @tekla.bsky.social in writing this story, and the memorial itself I found quite moving, especially seeing someone from my hometown among the people we've lost this year.

a disconcerting and remarkable story from @msjpauly.bsky.social and @pablo.show about anti-trans grifter Riley Gaines and how she transmogrified from collegiate swimmer to a conservative star

(stay for the kicker quote!)
I’ve spent a lot of the last three years investigating the rise of anti-trans politics. Often, it came back to the controversy over trans women athletes.

So I teamed up with @pablo.show to look into the leading figure on the issue: Riley Gaines.

How right-wing superstar Riley Gaines built an anti-trans empire
The swimmer tied a trans woman for fifth. The MAGA industrial complex took care of the rest.

Shout out to @evanurquhart.bsky.social btw
A trans man brought me to the hospital when I was in too much pain to stand and insisting it would be fine if I just waited a few. He told me I was being ridiculous and he was right. He took me to the ER.

Trans people have been there for me in ways most cis people have not. When I got my hysterectomy I tried joining a support group and was told I couldn’t use the word lesbian. I tried asking about hormones to women who’d gone through menopause and the response was just annoyance…

I'm a trans person w/ a trans kid & we lose trans siblings every year to hateful violence. On Trans Day of Remembrance we're called not only to collectively mourn those we've lost, but to renew our commitment to keep fighting for those who are still here.

I’ve been focusing on the vital importance of independent news outlets in my recent reporting. One, @assignedmedia.org, has give me a chance. Here, I point to the @mississippifreepress.org and @donnerkay.bsky.social as antidotes to an elite national media that’s fostered a culture of elite impunity
New from @billiejsweeney.bsky.social: The elite culture of abuse and impunity, laid bare by the Epstein files, explains much about a media environment where ethical breaches are rewarded with plum positions while hardworking journalists are out of work.
