I wonder who at Team Cherry watched Kill La Kill while writing the story for Silksong.

It's wild to me that no one beat me to this story.
On Friday 18 blue state attorneys general BLASTED the Federal Trade Commission, telling it to back off trans youth healthcare and warning of an insidious attempt to reshape the regulation of medicine in the US.

And nobody covered it.

Hell of a piece to have written Tuesday night. My newest piece in @slate.com follows up on my August piece, looking at the right-wing anti-trans ideology and how that leads us into a rapid descent towards out and out fascism.
The Bullets That Killed Charlie Kirk Were Not Engraved With “Trans Ideology.” But That Won’t Stop the Campaign to Brand Trans People as Violent Monsters.
Now is the time to resist this dangerous strategy, before it’s too late.

Sure love writing a story drawing parallels between the right's treatment of transgender people and the German descent into Naziism that was meant to go up yesterday afternoon 🙃

Writing a follow-up to last my last piece in Slate, but someone has decided it's time for a break.

Thank you @valorievandieman.bsky.social for raising the alarm on what the implications of Trump's move to institutionalize homeless and mentally ill people could mean for members of the trans community.

Trump's recent executive order calling for the criminalization of drug addiction, homelessness, and mental illness stands to disproportionately affect the transgender population of America, and sets the stage for some nightmarish scenarios.

Please, support us if you can! Your support allows us to do all sorts of cool and impactful things like the Stay With Us package, the DC trip to cover US vs Skrmetti, and the Trans Stories short videos just to name a few I've been involved with. Not to mention all our usual news throughout the week!
In order to meet the moment, we need your help. Our goal is to add an additional $1000/month to keep funding the increased pace of publication we've been maintaining since we got the news of Trump's re-election.

We're about halfway to that goal, so we need to keep pushing. Join us as a member!

My first piece outside of Assigned came out this morning! I discuss Skrmetti and the OBBBA and how they drive an urgency for gender affirming care.

Genuinely so good!
Just watched the latest Taskmaster with @valorievandieman.bsky.social and that might be the best final task of the whole show.

My newest article! Conducted the interview and wrote it from bedrest post surgery.
The state of Texas is officially defining sex. Assigned Media's @valorievandieman.bsky.social on how state sponsored bullying encourages hatred, discrimination, and harassment.
Texas Invites Everyone to Police Gender — Assigned
A bigoted measure “defining sex” raises confusion and sows fear. That’s the point.

If you can, please support @evanurquhart.bsky.social and his work at @assignedmedia.org.

He is one of the most driven, caring, and intelligent people I’ve ever met and I firmly believe that we all need him to keep doing well.
I'm a fast reader... but this will take me, conservatively, two full workdays (16 hrs).

There's no money in the budget for "Evan spends all weekend reading another ginormous GAC report" so I think I'm also going to do some fundraising so I can afford to pay myself.

Ever since my egg cracked four years ago, I have had a lot of imposter syndrome about being trans. After seeing the results of my surgery for the first time, that is all dispelled. There is no longer any doubt in my mind that this is what I wanted, and I am so happy to be here.

Stupidest way I hurt myself?

Was welding TIG and the filler metal was starting to melt to close to my fingers. I decided to adjust where it was in my hand like I would a pencil, by tapping it against my thigh. Effectively, I threw a molten steel dart into my leg.
Stupidest way I hurt myself?

It's not a metaphor, I actually did once touch the burner on a stove to check if it was still hot.
that time I was riding down a hill on a bicycle and caught a yellowjacket with my mouth

the worst part is that after it stung me IN MY MOUTH, which did NOT taste pleasant, I spat it out and it flew away unharmed.

I saw the results of my surgery today! The incisions are pretty gnarly and its all pretty swollen down there. But seeing myself with the parts I've wanted was incredible! Everything finally feels right.

I am exhausted, but I made it through surgery! Now to begin recovery
May 16, 2025 at 1:10 AM
It is officially one week until bottom surgery! I have been working towards this for three years, navigating insurance, delays in care, and tons of changes in my life along the way. Now I'm just one cross country road trip away.
