Suk.

Yep. Just because there will be a time after Trump, it does not mean US policy will change.
The idea that the blame should be focussed on trusting Trump is dodging the truth. The US population chose Trump, even after Jan 6, 2021, even after he talked about leaving NAT0 and after he talked about his respect for Putin. It is the action of the USA as a political entity.

Kloge ord.

I am a staunch supporter - and proud - of the 🇩🇰Danish support to 🇺🇦Ukraine and it should continue unchanged as it is our first line of defence of European values, it is something we can and should be able to afford, and even if we couldn’t, we should make the budget available.

TL;DR: Russia has decided that the UK is Russia's enemy, and there's nothing we can do to change that as long as Putin is in power. The choice is whether to be an undefeated enemy or a defeated one. That's all the choice we get.

Here we have Starmer (who always refused the UK had to make a choice between the EU & US) explicitly link a refusal against a customs union arguing the UK got the better deal with Trump and does not want to give it up.

Det længere svar kommer over flere beskeder.

If anyone in Europe was still clinging to the idea that the Trump administration isn't immovably pro-Russian and hostile to Western institutions and values, they need to read the 2025 National Security Strategy and think again.

Agree. This has been very clear for a long time.
Surprise is the main word here. I absolutely cannot understand why people are still surprised or shocked by that, and how even some experts still sugarcoat the US and its views on Europe.
People continue to be surprised by this stuff as if we don't already know that the main point of strategy documents for the Trump admin is throwing far-right talking points together in exactly the way that produces maximum trolling.

Dear Europe, especially Germany,

Stop obsessing over what Trump will or won’t do. Hoping & praying America will step up so we don’t have to is dangerously stupid.

Step up yourself, destroy Russia’s war economy, & give Ukraine what they need to win.

Europe must defend Europe.

Correct - Trump likes Putin and is not to be trusted. He will demand payment for protection - and then renege on the protection if it is really needed. As he has already done by threatening to redraw from NATO if we did not pay more even after our troops fought and died in Afghanistan and Iraq.
As opposed to Trump's incredibly weak "sanctions" on Russia, this shows its true priorities. Romania is a front line state, and the US is going to weaken Romanian security now and for the foreseeable future.
This is why European states need to make sure Ukraine wins.
