The Carney Government just passed a Federal Budget that cuts the Canada Public Transit Fund, as the TTC faces a $4.3B repair backlog & $232M operations shortfall.

The $3B fund will now be folded into a generalized infrastructure fund, leaving less money on the table for transit riders nationwide 👎

Today Mount Dennis GO Station opened, with trains between Downtown Toronto, Brampton-Kitchener and Pearson Airport on average every 10 minutes.

This is one of many regional rail stations coming to the City of Toronto over the next decade, as GO Transit continues to expand.

A reminder that Mount Dennis GO officially opens tomorrow morning! Here is the UP Express schedule for tomorrow. The weekday schedule as well as the schedule for GO trains can be viewed online.

We're happy to announce that we're looking for a volunteer to lead our advocacy efforts for the TTC Streetcar network. Our streetcars are some of the slowest in the world, and on time performance was just 61% last month. As our streetcar lead, you will have the responsibility of:

When Mount Dennis GO/UP opens this Sunday, UP express travel times will increase from 25 minutes to 28 minutes in both directions for all trips.

Our construction costs are a big barrier to not getting our infill GO stations. 2/5 stations got cut because we are incapable of building simple above ground stations for less than $400million. Park Lawn GO recently got postponed because of cost and our flawed model of private station development.
frustrated at the city for not prioritizing the planned toronto infill stations built on the GO lines, and even more frustrated at the incompetent province+metrolinx for being wholly incapable at delivering GO expansion.

we should have 5 electrified lines w all day <15 min service by now!

Did you know that when Mount Dennis GO opens this Sunday. It'll be 3x faster to get to Union Station than it currently takes. The fastest trips today take around 45 minutes, on Sunday it'll take just 13 minutes. This is the power of regional rail.

Watch Toronto's streetcars in action. Transit signal priority holds the green light for the streetcar to make it through, but a car waiting to make an illegal left turn makes the streetcar miss the light. Hopefully the red paint being installed on Bathurst makes this less common.

If we want to get high speed rail on the Toronto-Quebec City corridor within our lifetimes, the federal government needs to develop the expertise to execute this project. A large part of that includes getting rid of our incredibly secretive planning and design process
I've done something that I don't do very often. I wrote a short, quick polemic post. It was prompted by a discussion in here.

It's about why I'm still skeptical about ALTO's HSR project and why there is no way around transparency in public projects.

#NEWS: Waterloo Regional Council voted 15-1 in favour of the full-route LRT extension to Cambridge, with construction planned to start as early as 2028. Many community members spoke in support of the extension, noting the need for equity, active transportation & housing density in Cambridge.

The federal budget is likely quite bad for transit. They've rebranded the Canada Public Transit Fund and rolled it into a more generic "Build Communities Strong Fund"

If 'Transit’ was removed from the name, we have to assume that it isn't a priority for this government. Stay tuned for more updates

It seems that the Canada Public Transit Fund will be changing as part of todays budget announcement. We will see what those changes are when the budget gets released.

This is a mistake Toronto will regret for decades. The Eglinton Crosstown LRT could've and should've been a fully grade separated light metro.
Making the Eglinton Crosstown elevated through Scarborough would have made it immensely better

Wayfinding is on the agenda at the next TTC Board meeting! Transit riders have long found signage on public transit inadequate and inaccessible. If it passes this strategy is a step toward clearer, more inclusive navigation.
