If you know someone who has list SNAP benefits, encourage them to see if they qualify for Meals on Wheels. I have a disabled patient who was able to qualify, and she not only gets some meals, they also help with some pet food for her service dog.

The first two episodes of the revival of Reading Rainbow have nearly 500,000 views each 🤯

Do you know how cool that is for literacy, for book joy?! We are all worthy of reading, we are all readers 💚

And NOW episode three is out! Take a look, it’s in a book 📚🌈🦋

Did you give water to a bat near the Arboretum? It had rabies
A rabid bat was found in Seattle near the Washington Park Arboretum. Here's what to know, and what to do if you think you might have been exposed.

ACOG reaffirms that acetaminophen is safe for managing pain and fever during pregnancy. No reputable studies support suggestions like those in HHS’s recent announcement linking acetaminophen use in pregnancy to autism; in fact, high-quality studies show no such risk. https://bit.ly/47Wxc59

Ah yes. We should definitely do what Nate Silver suggests. That is clearly the way forward.

In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

Since a U.S. government shutdown “seems like a real possibility, I believe that Mr. Schumer is picking the wrong fight,” writes Nate Silver. Instead of health care, “I’d focus on the one issue that has had the most impact in denting Mr. Trump’s approval rating: tariffs.”
Opinion | Democrats Are Picking the Wrong Shutdown Fight
Tariffs, not health care, would be a better focal point for the opposition party.

The Recruit. Season 1 was better than Season 2 but still a fun show.
Everyone has a 1-2 season TV show they sorely miss and not enough people knew about that you are always praising the heavens about.

What's yours?

We are doing this to ourselves. There is no reason the National Cancer Institute should have a 4% payline. Nor should any of the other institutes. This will lead to generational destruction of research infrastructure and talent.
In light of today’s news about the National Cancer Institute announcing a 4% payline, it’s really important to communicate to people that the previous 10% payline was still effectively a lottery and the result of decades of underfunding the NIH. Paylines used to be 25%.

As a cashier at a book store in the DC area, I (not a baseball person) asked customer buying a baseball book “if they were into baseball because Barry Bonds was about to do something big”.

Friends it was ESPN, WaPo and PTI’s own Michael Wilbon. He politely said that he did like baseball.
Right folks. Feeling rather down at the moment so bringing back an oldie

I looked at an office manager position today (just in case) figuring my lab manager experience could translate.
The brain drain will be when scientists are forced into other careers/jobs so that they can keep paying the bills. They will never return.

There aren't enough science jobs in other countries to absorb even a fraction of those laid off.
On a basic level- you can't expect US talent to sit on their hands and wait until maybe, hopefully there's a job for them. A handful might be able to do that, but the majority are going to leave. Countries are actively seeking to take advantage of US brain drain.
