BIG NEWS: Congresswoman-elect Adelita Grijalva will finally be sworn in as a member of Congress tomorrow.

She is likely to be the 218th vote on the Epstein discharge petition, which would force a full vote to release the Epstein files in their entirety.

Remember how just a few years ago during the worst of the pandemic when we saw how the govt can actually do big things and saw that our collective health & well-being are intertwined, and then corporations got mad that they lost a modicum of power and helped fund a backlash of amnesia and fascism?

The effort to make us forget that Covid forced governments round the world to take fast, effective steps for the collective good is probably greater by this point that the efforts taken to contain Covid.

America *ended child poverty*, then voted to reinstate it because it was off message.

Women's products are not covered either! The woman who cuts my hair helps out at a food pantry. She told me they need Women's personal items because they aren't allowed to use their EBT cards for those either!

1. You can't even get hot food on SNAP, much less use it for nails or "weave". It doesn't work like a credit card. Items that do not qualify do not ring up.

2. Let's call a spade a spade. That right there was not a dog whistle. It is old school pure uncut Reagan era racism. What he said was RACIST.
ROB SCHMITT: People are using SNAP benefits to get their nails done, to get their weaves and their hair. This is a really ugly program.

SEN. RON JOHNSON: That program needs to be dramatically reformed.

The average US taxpayer spends $36 a year on SNAP

You know what they spend on corporate subsidies? $670

Poor and disabled people who need food are not the problem

If you’re angry about “your money” feeding people but not angry it’s giving tax cuts to the wealthy?

You’re doing their dirty work.

I am certainly no seasoned strategist but I am a little skeptical of the political wisdom behind building a giant golden ballroom and sharing a dozen photos of a renovated marble bathroom at the very moment that millions of people are losing access to healthcare and food.

It's 31 October. Most people will be thinking about Halloween. Historians, of course, will be thinking about Martin Luther, who nailed his 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg on this day in 1517. 1/4

He's building a gold-guilded ballroom to host the foreign officials who come to bribe him, while denying millions of hungry kids food. Just how thuddingly obvious, how over-the-top, how florid & theatrical does this story have to get before the media starts honestly telling it?

You would think that as a Xtian, Johnson would want those files published in order to punish abusers & bring justice/closure to the victims, but then you remember Johnson is a Southern Baptist, which has its own history of covering up abuse & victim blaming, & everything else makes so much sense.
Adelita Grijalva now holds the record for longest delay between winng a special Congressional election and being sworn into office.

Why the delay from Mike Johnson?

Perhaps it's because Grijalva would cast the final vote needed to release the Epstein files.
