"But a lot more than 8 dem senators wanted to vote for the CR!"

Cool, we should make them even more afraid by completely destroying the political careers of the chosen scapegoats.

Scapegoats are sacrifices. We should sacrifice these scapegoats.

Its funny but I think it actually reflects THE fundamental tension in Christianity since its earliest foundation: is the faith principally about personal holiness or outward focused mercy?

Obviously, no binary can fully capture the diversity of billions of people over thousands of years, but...

It does open the possibility that Donald Trump/his estate AND any number of White House officials could be personally financially responsible for maintaining or paying for removal of the ballroom and the restoration of the East Wing.
Asking earnestly, how is the ballroom project at all legal under the Anti Deficiency Act?

One of my favorite aspects of authoritarian Christianity (modern and older) is how easily god can be foiled, and how we have to stop him from being tricked.

The holy creator who spoke the infinite cosmos into being gets stumped by a little dental care.

Fascinated how the guy who made superstars of Matt Walsh, Candace Owens, Jordan Peterson, and Michael Knowles thought that unfettered racism and every phobia in existence wouldn't eventually include anti-semitism

Wow your bouncing AI agent icon that i keep accidentally clicking cause it takes up the bottom right fifth of my mobile screen sure isnt helpful.

It really makes a rote and boring chore into a uniquely irritating experience. Thanks!

I can already see how SNL is going to do the Mamdani head Bob. His way of puncuating and accenting with neck movements is going to saturate our language like Obama's "look" has become the standard filled pause at the start of a sentence.
UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

I am patently against circumcision of infants outside of medical necessity. It should be illegal to modify the body of a child who we all recognize cannot give consent, except in medical necessity.

But not like this. This will just means circumcision without pain management.

Pretty sure OMBs legal threat is just them retreating from the threat to do massive furloughed RIFs.

Its among the weakest and most absurd claims they've tried to make.

Feel free to attribute the following to a former OMB General Counsel: The supposed "new legal analysis" is, to use a technical legal term, horseshit. What the law actually says is that when Congress enacts a law ending a lapse, furloughed employees get paid at the earliest date possible. Period.
Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"

Really disappointed with AFGE (my union) for this email and the message therein.

While it contains some great demands re impoundment and pocket rescissions, its obvious that their priority is funding the government and not fighting the fascism metastisizing throughout the gov.

I think this is a false dichotomy. The Christians who help their community, i.e. outward facing good acts, are never doing it for fear of hell.

The "i have to be virtuous to avoid hell" is always inward focused, "i CANT jerk off or acknowledge that im gay" (its like 90% sex stuff).
sorry, but if person A is being a good person and helping their community because it's the right, human thing to do, while person B is being a good person because of the threat of eternal punishment in hell, I'm inclined to trust the person with developed personal morals not tied to religion

The harsh fact revealed by the "Woke Right" is that those who decried wokeness never actually engaged with the arguments. To them, "woke" just meant "nagging". They became reflexively/reactionarily anti-social justice, but their only real complaint was that someone dared to have a different opinion.
The irony is, "woke" was a term specifically from Black people/culture, which was then appropriated and weaponized to target anything related to race/social justice...

Woke = Black

The "Black Right"?

Do I have this straight?
I can explain the term "the woke right." The logic:

1) I denounced "wokeness" for years, proclaiming it dire threat to free speech, a civilizational danger
2) This fascism I was downplaying while focused on wokeness seems actually bad
3) Since I am by definition never wrong, the fascism is wokeness

Phenomenal thread.
it kills me knowing what’s needed is for people to double down on bucking any demands for “civility” because they understand these demands are training people to surveil & snitch on their neighbors and an exploit to intensify authoritarian control over our thoughts.

I think I've lost the last gossamer of my faith. Am I an ex-Christian? Am I separated from that tradition entirely? I don't know how to define myself.

I do not ask for things. I don't worship, I don't attend a church. But something hums inside me like the ache and buzz of a lost limb.
