I like history, I support libraries, and I’m really tired.

If I could live life in a ball gown, I probably would. Opinions are my own.

Congrats to great colleague/fellow podcaster @eosnos.bsky.social on his new book out today with the best title, ‘The Haves and the Have-Yachts,’ a summer must read for these oligarchic times

I had a "what's the point of researching?" moment yesterday.

I'm not sure I have solutions per se, but I do feel strongly there's a lot of courage in continuing to write and create right now.

It’s fun being a writer and trying to write during this delightful era. I’ll write like three paragraphs and before I start on the fourth I blink and I’m doomscrolling and I don’t even remember commanding my hand to click to that tab. Then I go back to writing. Everything is fine! It’s all fine.

News Analysis: The GOP won the last election in no small part because of its new appeal with working-class voters. But the economic agenda Republicans are now putting together would by and large help rich Americans, all while teeing up cuts to programs that provide health care and food to the poor.
GOP Gambles on Budget Plan That Helps the Rich and Cuts Aid to the Poor

Folks, this isn't complicated!

Someone who says "of course I support protecting the environment," but then slashes the budget of the *Environmental Protection Agency*, does not actually support protecting the environment!

There's no need to pretend there's some secret brilliant principle here!

The reason I'm not a video game critic or reviewer or whatever, especially with older titles, is that I approach a lot of games from the context of when they were released, the tech available, what QoL innovations may not have existed, etc. I'm so history nerd poisoned that this matters to me a lot.

You are going to hear a lot of conservative activists over the next four years explain why an arcane constitutional provision unequivocally compels some aspect of Trump's policy agenda, and I would like you to remember they are full of shit and you do not have to pay attention to them
You Are Allowed to Have an Opinion About What the Constitution Means
As the Supreme Court prepares to tackle the Trump Colorado ballot access question, plenty of so-called experts claim to have all the answers.

To all the people in high school and undergrad that thought I was stupid when I said that we need physical library spaces with print copy books, and that digital can’t replace them:

Screw you. I was right.

This is really, really beautiful and practical advice.
Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce.

Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.
