Talkin' about old games, mostly Sega.

They let me talk on the HG101 Podcast sometimes by mistake.

He/him/they/them, these are all fine.

Making a reminder note that I'm using Mastodon a bit more in the event shit gets worse here than it already is. Do I expect folks to migrate over? No, but as I've mentioned, backup plans. Probably also shouldn't be on mastodon dot social but hopefully it is temporary.

One aspect of the Sega Saturn's identity that I feel is often ignored by western fans is the huge popularity of "gal games" on the system. There is a reason Sega created a title like Sakura Wars at the time, as the ratio of gal games being released on the Saturn was twice as large as the PS1. 🧵

Haven't got much use out of my Switch 2 lately. I thought I'd at least be playing catch up with some Switch 1 games that might run better, but a number of them seem to be getting Switch 2 upgrades and I'm like maybe I should wait and then I end up not playing anything.

In 2014, a new cross-media initiative was born. The 'Sonic Boom' sub-franchise began in earnest, with 3D adventure "Rise of Lyric" on Wii U and "Shattered Crystal" on 3DS launching in North America.

Browsing the WCW/NWO Revenge pictures, and it is a mix of wrestlers doing poses in front of a blue curtain, some photographs from various WCW events, high res cutouts of the four cover wrestlers, and high res WCW/NWO Revenge logo. Zero pictures of the game itself.

I wasted most of the day getting old DOS games set up on Linux via DOSBox in very particular ways and at some point somebody need to stop me before I debate whether I should be setting up each game in the id Anthology as individual entries on a frontend or as a singular entry opening up another menu

A lot of folks are--rightfully--saying that Dragon Quest VII is Too Long and that it could use a bit more streamlining.

But have you thought about the real sickos that think...what if Dragon Quest VII...was longer?

My thoughts: "yeah you got Doom II: Hell on Earth running in DOSBox on Linux, yeah you made a .conf file that'll launch into a batch menu selector and added Master Levels for Doom II running in DOOM-IT alongside it as an option...have you thought about the third option...Maximum Doom..............."

So I'm just configuring old DOS FPS games in DOSBox Staging in Linux because I'm bored I guess. Now that I got all the classic Dooms running, and Heretic and Hexen I guess, I'm like, what else should I run in DOSBox that would technically be better to run in a source port...

Installing the very old Hexen and Deathkings Steam installations to extract their files, and I completely forgot that the original Steam release of Deathkings included the 1.0 version of HEXDD.WAD that was missing music. You had to get the old "dkpatch.zip" file to patch it to 1.1 to fix that.

The rich will just hole up in whatever "the best land" will be with whatever super structures they want to secure themselves in and keep on keeping on, so it doesn't matter to them what happens to the rest of the planet beyond how it'll keep them rich.

Solution: make sure they don't get there.
Yes, this is correct. And the reason is because our capitalist classes have decided that it is not sufficiently profitable, so they're not going to do it.

We must understand this reality. Capital *cannot* be relied upon to address the climate crisis.

I always thought it was weird how Mr. Big's theme music just seems to change pretty significantly between games and their respective ports, like nobody could decide what it should be.
Yeah the Takara ports of SNK fighters to SNES are kinda janky but also have you heard of their version of Mr. Big's theme from AOF1 ESPECIALLY that one part?

Now I'm thinking about the person that's like, time to run "The Ultimate Doom Trilogy: Collector's Edition" version of Doom specifically, in Linux, in a Proton layer or something, just like, yeah I'm gonna play these games in Doom95.
