Franklin came from Puritan Boston to Quaker Philadelphia and on his own sweat made himself a pre-eminent figure of the Enlightenment. His whole life was in some sense devoted to the idea that God is your own business and doesn't breathe down your neck.
I read a fascinating book years ago called "The Faiths of the Founding Fathers" by David Holmes, which looks at six of the founders' religious beliefs in detail, and one thing that struck me was that they were all less religious than their wives!

There is no national security logic that would impel the US to want to do regime change in Venezuela. It's simply not that important. I'm not even sure wag the dog is the right metaphor for what's happening here. Seems like an insane misallocation of US national security assets and attention.

You're not seeing the defense and international conflict experts disagreeing because if the facts are true, it's one of the most basic things in the law of armed conflict: You cannot kill people who are "hors de combat," taken out of the game by injury or attack. This is Geneva 101 stuff.
