PHILLY

I stepped out to walk across Philly last night and get a sense of things. City Hall always captures me here, Philadelphia has maintained its European layout and much of its early architecture.

Hey, friends.

Please remember that feeling bad does not actually make you a better person or help anyone.

Decouple action from emotion. Do what you can to help while feeling as good as you can.

People to object to you *feeling* happy, regardless of your actions, are being pointlessly cruel.

I'm also advocating for due process for Kilmar Abrego Garci
Just to be clear, I'm advocating for due process for Kilmar Abrego Garcia
JUST IN: Deputy Assistant to the President and "Counterterrorism Czar" Sebastian Gorka says anyone advocating for due process for Kilmar Abrego Garcia could be viewed as "aiding and abetting a terrorist" and be federally charged. (h/t Philip Germain)

Oil prices are down in anticipation of a recession. Interest rates are down because investors are dumping shares in favor of bonds, also in anticipation of a recession. Idiot.

We don't need more studies debunking the vaccine-autism link.

We need more studies on why so many people believe this debunked lie, what can be done to change their minds, and what can be done to mitigate the social damage caused by those unpersuaded by facts.

In other words: fund social sciences.

The Stonewall Inn released a response to the National Parks Service removing the word transgender from the park outside of the Inn. A great reminder that we have to look after each other

How the fuck are you supposed to find a missing trans kid without using the name they would be using for themselves?
New — The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) was told this week by DOJ that they'd lose their funding if the org didn't remove any mentions of LGBTQIA+ issues from their public materials, I've learned. Staff were told they need to deadname trans kids in their reports to comply.

We desperately, urgently need a media that isn’t afraid to name this as the evisceration of the federal government. That is what is going on. We cannot only be comfortable using such language when the situation is far away in time or space. It’s happening here. We need to be clear.

I have now seen the Ann Telnaes cartoon of Jeff Bezos's supplication before Donald Trump more often today than I've seen any other cartoon during the entire rest of the year.

So, well played, Washington Post.

I’d like to float Luigi Mangione as a candidate for speaker of the House. He’s got a lot in his favor: (1) R’s are ok putting a criminal in charge (2) great iconography as shown below, treated here as a supervillain, with mayoral escort 3) he can shoot someone on 6th Ave and not lose supporters
Perhaps more law enforcement should take art history.

Seems to me like it’s both. The killing is inexcusable, and its celebration, but obviously the system violates people’s sense of fairness.

People criticizing the Hunter Biden pardon need to recognize: For the 1st time, the FBI and Justice Department could literally fabricate evidence, or collaborate with a foreign government to “find” evidence of a “crime,” with zero accountability. That’s why the pardon goes back to 2014. Think, McFly

Now I think people are just being intentionally dense. This removes the political cost for Republicans who are going to defend Trump‘s pardons. Trump might not have paid much of a price, but his defenders have to run for reelection and this issue is now off the table against them.
i think is a bit naive to think that *this* is the reason trump will pardon the J6 terrorists. he has said in numerous occasions that they deserve a pardon. he refers to them as “political hostages”.

not once has trump hinted that he’d pardon only under *certain* circumstances.
This is exactly the argument he'll use when he lets the J6 people out, and pardoning Hunter just reduced the political cost of that - and yes, there would have been some - significantly.

I now see that because of decades of progress in things like civil rights and LGBTQ acceptance, I had underestimated the entrenchment of bigotry in American society, a starkly evident feature of the Trump era.
One thing that annoys me about social media and politics is that rather than admit that you were wrong about something, people tend to double down and retreat into their own echo-chambers rather than admit that they were mistaken. So my question to you is what were you wrong about politically over
