The more “progressive” politicians keep talking about migrants as a problem the more public resentment fixes itself as the atmosphere of politics. We cannot stop fascism by accepting its hostile framing of certain groups. We need politicians who will shift emotional gears and do better for everyone.

I also think the Trump regime’s embrace of pro-rape figures like Tate should be considered a continuation of their anti-abortion politics—different in style, but not in substance. Both seek to commandeer women’s bodies by force in order to compel them into a gendered role, be it mommy or sex object.
