The dumbest possible people are making decisions that are causing incredible reputational harm to the US, and actual harm to its citizens.
The Trump administration on Saturday scrambled to rescind layoffs of hundreds of CDC scientists who were mistakenly fired on Friday night in what appeared to be a substantial procedural lapse.

Sometime around 1982, I got a part-time job at the first computer store in my hometown. They sold Apple, Commodore, and IBM. We had a display of Electronic Arts games, in big flat cardboard boxes to hold 5 1/4” floppy discs.

I spent most of my pay on those. M.U.L.E. Archon. 🧵
My colleagues at Bloomberg report that the $20 billion debt in the EA deal is expected to be rated single-B — meaning it is considered a "junk" loan, or one that is high-risk and speculative, typically offering high interest rates. Which the new EA will have to pay

Lies, damned lies, and whatever this entity exhales….
Trump on DC: "Sadly, what I guess the mayor did, but whoever it was, they asked the numbers to be fudged so they would show less crime. The fact is, it's worse than it has ever been."

What he said….
I feel this a lot these days when I see people angry that other folks are not focused on the same atrocity they are, with the same intensity they are. I regret to say there's more than one genuine atrocity in the world at the moment; it doesn't minimize the others if one chooses another to focus on.

As someone who’s been involved in the whole space flight thing - keep your tanks away from your launch areas if you want them to survive.
This is a “big oopsie”!
We got slowmo now! Looks a lot like the top tank was just kinda shit and let go. Fire first means that was probably the methane tank with the LOX tank letting go shortly after. Does mean that this could have been worse - if the LOX let go first and hyperoxygenated the air for the methane...

If you're heading to a protest tomorrow, it's important to know your rights. Consult this information from the ACLU.

Be peaceful. Be safe. Be careful. Be strong.

This Memorial Day weekend I remember my great-uncle Bill Hayes, who served in the Pacific in WWII and died this year at 102.

I just got word that my great uncle Bill has passed at age 101. Me was my father’s mother’s sister’s husband, so not blood-close, but we all loved him. He was a raconteur, with tales of working overseas for Saudi Aramco, and served in the jungles of the Pacific in WWII.

In the mode of yesterday’s “interesting intros” - Chicago, particularly in their early years, didn’t give a single sullen fart about your radio format requirements. Here’s a nice intro leading to a uniquely “them” song:

On a lighter note:
There is an entire category of music in my head with complex, interesting intros. Foreplay/Long Time by Boston is probably most famous, and Sirius/Eye in the Sky is strong, but I’ve always had a soft spot for this one:

I realize I have zero clout, BUT… I think it would be a banging idea if the roles in all Muderbot’s entertainment shows were played by the same 6-10 actors. We’d see John Cho in Sanctuary Moon, then in Timestream Defenders Orion, then in the ads on Port FreeCommerce - it would be a heck of a gag.

There are some truly creative people in this version of the federal government - they keep coming up with new ways to make our world worse.
This is tantamount to pointing a loaded gun at your foot with your finger on the trigger. Can't tell you how many times CVEs have been instrumental in pushing codebases to upgrade to mitigate serious security vulnerabilities
