One of the worst examples I can remember of the government giving in to performative right wing outrage. And not just the government; a lot of the media also co-signed this fake outrage.
Worth remembering that in 2009 Obama's DHS produced a report about the growing threat of right-wing extremism. When the report leaked, GOP went crazy. DHS apologized and disavowed it.
In the years since, we've seen an insurrection and multiple mass shootings targeting minorities.
