This is the exact reason I fell in love with microscopy - looking down the microscope, seeing a piece of biology that has existed for millions of years but has never been observed until now.

It’s like being the first person to summit Everest* - true exploration!

* - usually a bit safer though!
Microscopy most especially. To be the first human to ever lay eyes on something. What a feeling.
Really just had something like this feeling this afternoon. It’s the high that keeps you coming back for more

Can you help in my hunt for new research posters?

I run a workshop on academic poster design & presentations and I’m looking for new examples to share. If you have a poster I can use please get in touch. Good, bad and ugly examples are all more than welcome.

Our paper is out just in time for #EM_Monday! It is about a specialized neuron-specific ER, called the spine apparatus, which is found close to synapses and has a very peculiar shape. If you think neurons are special, the spine apparatus is their🦄 horn! But how does it form?!

This is a fantastic way to visualise the deskew transformation common on Lattice Lightsheet microscopes!
Made an interactive "on-the-fly" deskew of lattice lightsheet data in #BigVolumeViewer for teaching purposes
