Yes, correct, we don't, and the sooner people would understand that we have a fundamentally flawed document and get on with replacing it with something more tangible, the better
this gets to the fundamental lawlessness. the difference between law as a game and law as a tool of government.

birthright citizenship is the law. nothing has changed. the documents are the same. if that can change based on *nothing*, you don't have a real constitution in the first place.
also, let’s say wurman is right. well, we have had nearly 160 years of unlimited birthright citizenship that has been affirmed again and again by generations of Americans. whatever the original intent, that is what the birthright clause *means*.

Literally anyone who has developed object permanence would only be surprised to find the opposite. Just an insane, ahistorical take

Y’all are reading this supposedly ”exculpatory” email incorrectly. Even Alan Dershowitz knows that the *least worst* thing you can be doing with a child sex trafficking victim is getting a massage, which is why he went with that excuse! Do you think trump spent hours talking about beanie babies

My kids now go to school where three out of eight classes or 60 out of 160 students have IQs that are more than two standard deviations above the mean which is totally a real thing that could happen. Also, approximately zero out of 320 parents could calculate the exact probability of that happening.

The lieutenant told his colleagues he had trouble sleeping after he "made a horrible decision to give into a crowd of protesters demands and kneeled alongside several other officers."

I need a city recommendation to stay in that is driving distance to DC, nice, less expensive than DC, north of DC preferably as coming from northeast (NY). I have my kids with me and wife with walker/wheelchair. We want to be able to drive into city, show kids DC, drive back out.

Mamdani won more primary votes from one single city than Phillips won primary votes in 2024 from every single city, state and territory in this country combined (565,639 vs 529,486)
It's weird that a big tent Democratic party wouldn't include the guy who just handily won the Democratic primary in the city with the most Democratic voters in America. #votersmatter

Now that Popularism has been abandoned, I am presenting Differential Popularism, in which all Dem politicians should choose policies that are popular not with the voters they already have, but with the voters they are seeking to gain, ie, they should endorse the republican agenda

this is a good post and "decadence" is a good way to think about a lot of things. true decadence is, eg, thinking you could let an insurrection go unpunished and the country would just keep chugging along nbd

One reason the Democrats are not inspiring much confidence as an “opposition party” is that their leader supports a fascist crackdown by his own political opponents because it aligns with his personal support for an apartheid foreign government.
Chuck Schumer is very clear that he and the Democratic Party are not going to come to the aid of higher education against Trump’s assault. He agrees with it. Quibbles on details but supports forcing universities to crack down harder against alleged antisemitism.
