It's 6:55 AM right now and the Sun's about to come up. To anyone who wishes we were still on daylight saving time, it would be as dark now as it was an hour ago and the Sun wouldn't be starting to come up until an hour from now. For me, that would be 8 AM. It would still be dark then. At 8 AM. #DST

There are some economic reasons for permanent daylight saving time, but the health and safety reasons for permanent standard time overwhelm them.

anyone who bitches about daylight savings this time of year (outside of the adjustment the first week or two or a parent) doesn't have to wake up early bc the only reason i am a functional human at work is because it is light out at 7 am

New Jersey residents: Tell your state senators to oppose S1510 permanent DST before its Transportation hearing on Monday. Last time pDST was tried, it was a deadly and expensive disaster. Tell them to support S4084 permanent Standard Time for safety instead!

Interesting piece by @thawking.bsky.social, but year-round DST in 1974 failed due to winter morning safety problems. I doubt that it had much to do with Watergate.

The "Sunshine Protection" bill would impose perma-DST except in states already exercising the standard time option.
The U.S. tried permanent daylight saving time—and hated it
In 1974, America set its clocks forward for good in the name of energy savings.

It's pitch black outside as my kid leaves for school at 7:25am. She has to cross a busy street to get to the bus, and not all drivers have their lights on. Daylight Savings is awful anyway, but it DEFINITELY should be over by now.

Satellites beaming sunlight down to Earth sound like science fiction – and they have astronomers very worried.
