thing is, it’s not THAT an unreasonable inference, if you don’t know anything much about writing or drugs, which most people in their 20s don’t!
Hunter S. Thompson was a good writer who was also an insane drug addict and generations of men in their 20s have destroyed their livers writing extremely boring pastiches as the result of incorrectly inferring some causal relationship there

Snowy owls are considered “irruptive” in the Midwest, meaning some years they show up in winter and some years they don’t. This unpredictability is one of the reasons a snowy owl sighting carries such a “once in a lifetime” sense of excitement.
