How common are “survey professionals” - people who take dozens of online surveys for pay - across online panels, and do they harm data quality?

Our paper, FirstView at @politicalanalysis.bsky.social, tackles this question using browsing data from three U.S. samples (Facebook, YouGov, and Lucid):

As an outsider, I find it insane that a for-profit organisation managed to present itself as a scientific, professional organisation for years. But continuing to organise an alternative conference to undermine the not-for-profit EPSS is beyond insane.

A common Q from British colleagues I keep getting is why isn’t asylum as salient in Spain’s political debate as in other countries like UK, given Spain had the 2nd most asylum apps in 2024 in EU (165K, after Germany)? Attitudes to immigration also remain quite favorable (ESS 2024).

Many people desperately wanted to see Starmer's LPC speech as a new direction on immigration and asylum. Yet, we clearly see a continuation of an approach that basically says Farage is right on policy but morally wrong. Others have tried it, it won't work.

The success of the far right is not only measured in votes and seats but in its impact on rhetoric, policy and ideology. The fact that a (nominally) social democratic head of government with a huge majority choses to say and do this is maybe the biggest success of the far right in Europe yet.
