First year I've felt like reporting information to my government science funding agency is potentially... risky. I'll probably still report, now that I have the protections of tenure, but it makes me sad for both science and the study of science.

Neat story on Canada's brain gain, but @nytimes.com should correct a mistake. @timothysnyder.bsky.social's new history course, cool as it sounds, will NOT be U of T's largest ever. I teach intro bio to 2000 students every fall, going back years. @uoft.bsky.social

Canada is lovely this time of year
Harvard should seriously consider pulling up roots and moving its operation across the border, as Central European University did when threatened by Hungary's autocrats.
Trump just revoked the ability for foreign students to enroll at Harvard. Every foreign student, which is in the thousands, enrolled for next year at Harvard will not be able to continue studying if this isn't challenged in court.

This is bad. I'm not an immigration expert, but from having been an international student and scholar there, I think this affects not just undergrads, but grad students, postdocs, and even visiting professors on sabbatical.
Breaking News: The Trump administration halted Harvard’s ability to enroll international students, a major escalation in its battle with the school.

Absolutely. How nice to hear BC Premier David Eby express a commitment to science and the evidence that science directs us to. I hope Canada can welcome, with open arms and grateful hearts, not just American health care professionals, but American scientists more generally
Since we put the call out in March, over 1000 health care professionals  from America have expressed interest in coming to BC.

We’ll welcome them with open arms and grateful hearts.
