"Canadian businesses are immensely profitable ... Those profits are also at record levels relative to GDP:"

Seems remarkable given the supposed lack of a "business-friendly" government in Ottawa for the last decade.

Innovate? In this economy? With these profit margins?
It is time we realized how far extraction and innovation stand in opposition to each other.

Great name choice. The last Pope Leo, the 13th, was known as a pope for workers and the poor. In Rerum novarum he emphasized the rights of workers to form unions and earn good wages long before these were mainstream positions in the United States.

He's being disrespectful to veterans in a variety of ways, but the thing that really gets me is Veterans Day started out as "Armistice Day." It was explicitly about peace, never "victory." They were celebrating the fact that the war was over, not that it was won.
Divorced from actual history.

Corporate leaders are obsessing over GDP per capita.

But, if you look at just about any number that would meaningfully tell you how well our economy is doing, Canada does better than the U.S.

The Conservative plan is out and, ooof, is this costing a disaster.

There's a whole bunch of phantom revenues booked here, and the GST housing pledge is costed at under $2B. Given their proposed eligibility criteria, it should be more in the 4-6B range.

A good set of facts and arguments to have on hand when someone pulls out that "but our per capita GDP is shrinking!"...
Why GDP per capita doesn’t measure Canada’s true economic health
GDP per capita distorts Canada’s economic story. Population growth and inequality skew the numbers – and the policy conversation.

Because while a zero debt to GDP ratio isn't a particular goal in itself*, and although I accept line graphs don't need to start at zero, I do think that plus a bit of history is helpful in some cases.

* Given which I don't see why a constantly declining debt to GDP ratio should be a policy goal.

It’s not about saving money.

The U.S. doesn’t have a spending problem, a debt problem, or a deficit problem.

What we have is a wealth inequality problem—and DOGE is designed to make that real issue way worse.

It’s a con. The entire point is to defang government and insulate wealth from democracy.

If you’re leading with tax cuts you’ve already lost. Democrats should stand for a functional, responsive government, a generous safety net, and modernized public services.

Tax cuts is Reagan bullshit. It’s not what you pay. It’s what you get back.
