Nigel Farage is claiming to Congress that the UK gov deliberately withheld details of the Southport attacker from the public.

This is dangerous and it’s false. The attacker was under 18, and so a court had to give express permission to release his name in exceptional circumstances, which it did.

Nigel Farage, lying to Congress here. The New World, the magazine I edit, was banned from Reform's conference this morning, three months after they accepted our request for a press pass
Democrat @raskin.house.gov excoriates Nigel Farage for banning journalists from Reform UK events:

"I'm asking you a direct question. Why do you ban journalists who oppose your views from coming to your events? Why did you tell local government not to do interviews with your local newspaper?"

Nigel Farage just repeatedly denied – under oath! – to @raskin.house.gov
ever banning journalists he doesn’t like from his party’s conventions.

This happened to me *literally today*.
Nigel Farage is about to give evidence to the US Congress on threats to free speech in the UK.

So here's one for him: Reform UK has just banned me (and @thenewworldmag.bsky.social) from attending its party conference this weekend. www.thenewworld.co.uk/james-ball-w...
Chicken Farage bans The New World
It claims to be the party of free speech, but this last-minute decision to stop me attending tells a very different story

Yes, I'm a journalist who's critical of Farage and Reform UK. But I'm an accredited journalist with a press card, I'm the political editor of a weekly magazine, and when I registered back in May I got confirmation it was "successful". Until today, when it's now "declined". Here's the pics:

This by @sundersays.bsky.social now ongoing useful and necessary fact check against the total nonsense most UK papers are still spouting out. As if they still really want to make it happen.

I am so sick and tired of it.
The approach is again to list dozens of locations as "nationwide protests": 13 locations last night, 30 today/tomorrow.

Some struggle to attract 25 people (Rhoose airport, Wolverhampton).

Most get 40-100 people.

A handful (about 1 in 10) get 200-300 people, usually due to a local context

3 years ago, I had a patron come to the library and tell me they wanted to get into reading and didn’t know where to start.

We talked for a bit, figured what he liked, then found a few titles.

Now every summer he comes back and we find him a ton of books.

It’s a wonderful ritual :)
