The unexpected lesson from Chernobyl is that if you get the humans out of an area - even if that area is MASSIVELY polluted - nature heals itself incredibly quickly, We need large areas everywhere without people in them

I often wondered about this. J’ai enfin la réponse.
I hadn't given it much thoughts until now but I just learned that there is a reason why in most French-speaking countries 'eighty' is 'quatre-vingts' -- literally 'four twenties' -- and that reason is the ghostly presence of the ancient Gauls' base 20 counting system.

Humans are bad at big numbers. Which makes it easier for billionaires (and trillionaires) to get away with hoarding wealth. Because most people just can't comprehend how much money that is.

So, I appreciate this WaPo effort to help people visualize what ridiculous amounts of wealth really mean.

FFS! Canada Post is NOT a business. It is a public service, like parks and fire departments. Decide what services it should provide and fund it properly.

Are we expecting police departments or highway maintenance to turn a profit?

At risk of flogging a dead horse: this whole letter is a reminder that the creative process is an end in and of itself, and vital to self-actualisation. You can’t experience BECOMING, as he puts it, by outsourcing it to ChatGPT.
In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write to a famous author & ask for advice.

KURT VONNEGUT - born 103yrs ago today - was the only one to respond.

His reply was a doozy.

I often get attacked for posting about the potential harms caused by dietary supplements, and I do not care.

It’s important for the public to have accurate information.

Supplements are made by companies just like Big Pharma, except without intensive FDA oversight.

They can cause harm.
Herbal supplements were supposed to make them healthier. Instead, they got sick
Common compounds like turmeric and ashwagandha can overwhelm the liver and lead to health complications
