I’m so sick of these journalists and Democratic politicians saying we’re living in unprecedented times, while at the same time appropriating the Black & Brown (basically non-white, non-cis male)experience that is America. Using it as political fodder for wealth and power.😭

There is no such thing as the “magical Negro”. The actions of one lone Black man did not turn the tide of the Civil Rights movement. It was the community. It was the people.
To think a single person will get us out of this mess echoes thinking that one black box or one summer or one Black PRESIDENT would push us towards a post-racial utopia.
If it took us 250+ years to get us here, it's going to take more than a single act or person to get us somewhere else.

Right? And to be clear, we’re not saying this man’s freedom doesn’t matter. We’re saying this shouldn’t have happened in the first damn place and sure as hell shouldn’t happen to anyone else!

No wonder I had an anxiety disorder - I spent the last 10 years seeing this coming and feeling like I couldn’t do enough to stop it.
I say “had” because I’m 100% anxiety free now.
Maybe it’s the perverse relief of the horrible thing finally happening - seeing the enemy’s face clearly.

Let’s not forget that when Black folks protest, when Queer people protest, when womxn and Indigenous peoples protest, we also get those that show up specifically to derail and act out. We get the performative “liberals” there for the camera and we get the surburbanite white kids looking to loot.
A lot of people noticed the Hands Off protests were mostly white women—and peaceful.
Isn’t it interesting how protests are peaceful when there aren’t a bunch of cops in riot gear… or white supremacist militia groups lurking around?
