This is a call for #betareaders on my WIP! Looking for members of the #writingcommunity who would be available in November. Gaslamp fantasy, expected ~150k words. I can offer money, a read swap, or an art commission as payment.

Leave a comment or DM if you are interested!

Hey Coke, hire this man.
Well, I banged out a treatment out of pure spite. Took me a half-hour out of my morning, and I'm going to say it: my ad has ten times more heart than that gAI monstrosity Coke puked out.

(Apologies, but the alt text couldn't handle the whole thing, I'll have to figure that out.)

If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

More info about Marta Leiva, the woman I witnessed being assaulted by plainclothed men in the SLC airport last week. She has a work permit legal through 2029, mom of 4 with sick kids: www.ksl.com/article/5139...

You can donate to her gofundme for legal expenses: www.gofundme.com/f/apoya-madr...

Hi, no thank you. I enjoyed #Bluesky because *I* can choose what I do and do not want to see, not some data scraping machine feeding me ragebait. We don't need algorithms and we certainly don't need a way for bad faith assholes to dogpile.

I'm shaking almost too hard to type. I entered SLC airport and heard screams and cries for help. I could see people gathered around, watching. I sped over to discover this woman face down on the floor, four grown men pushing her down, while she cried "HELP ME" and pled for her child.

What makes some books so addictive that you just can't put them down? You know which ones I'm talking about — the ones that keep us up all night reading.

It all comes down to a psychological phenomenon known as the Zeigarnik effect. 🧠

As someone who is pretty turned off by gdocs ai scraping but still needs a way to share drafts with beta readers, #Ellipsus has proved super awesome so far. It has all the features I need from docs plus a few new cool things! Also it's anti-ai! #writingcommunity

The four aspects of a great character are the Need, the Want, the Ghost, and the Lie.

A Want is their conscious desire.

A Need is what they really want but might not know.

A Lie is the thing they believe that keeps them from that Need.

A Ghost is that spiritual wound that caused the Lie.

So much of finishing a novel is holding faith that, at some point, it's all going to come together into something worthwhile, something that people will read and enjoy. Faith, or perhaps delusion.

Received a $7 gift card to rant about how much I despise AI - I'd have done it for free but for $7 they got the extra vitriolic version. 😌

The downside is I may not be asked to participate in this survey series anymore. 😔

repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself
An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

This is fun 👀
As a book editor, I have worked with hundreds of writers across almost every fiction genre. One of the most fascinating things I've learned?

Most writers fit into one of four writer types. And no, it's not about plotters or pantsers!
