Comparing Iran 2025 to Iraq 2003 is inaccurate and unwise.

Very different when there’s no Congressional AUMF, apparently no unified position of the intel community, no inclusion of allies or UN (or even VP!) and much much greater potential for devastating retaliation incl cyberattacks + nuke war.

Spicy take: one day someone will publish on the way that, in this moment, therapists encouraged abdication of civic responsibility in the name of self care.*

*I support going to therapy. I also think there must be standardized care that recognizes the need for social bonds and civic participation.

🧵I think it’s important to understand what disinformation like Sen. Mike Lee’s tweets are trying to do, psychologically/cognitively. In my disinfo class/Substack, I talk about how disinfo often uses “moral disengagement strategies” to manipulate people into accepting harmful conduct 1/
This is an egregiously shameful tweet from a US senator

Political violence is always unacceptable. This is a horrifying day for Minnesota, and a sad day for America. What has occurred is a direct attack on our American values and democracy.

My family got these payments when my dad died at 34 years old after serving in the Navy for a decade from what he had paid in. I was five. Jeanine is an incurious ignoramus. Thanks @jessicatarlov.bsky.social for correcting her, which is God’s work.
Jeanine: We found out there are people who are between the ages of one and four who are getting social security

Jessica: That's the benefit for kids whose parents are dead.

Something that sometimes gets missed is that the government does not “give” or “take away” rights. Rights are “unalienable” & “endowed by the Creator.” You can’t earn them or lose them. They are either protected (by a legitimate government) or not (by a therefore illegitimate government).

This honestly feels insignificant in light of everything else but DOGE stealing USIP’s building - the most beautiful piece of architecture in DC - is a tragedy. It’s a monument to peace. You stand inside and the light pours in.
They meant “doing fraud waste and abuse” not “finding fraud, waste and abuse.”

Does anyone know of resources (articles, documentaries, easily-consumable media) that offers a kind of Ethics in Democracy 101 geared towards military or police? Constitutional obligations of security forces to citizens of their own country?

As predicted, women in New Hampshire had a hard time voting yesterday because of the new proof of citizenship law:

“It doesn’t have my married name on it,” she said. Town voting officials then sent her away a second time, to get her marriage certificate.

NH’s new ID requirements send some would-be voters home to grab passports, birth certificates
The law requires all new voters to show proof of their U.S. citizenship. For some, that meant making multiple trips to and from the polls before finally casting a ballot on Tuesday.

Don’t let the other side set the terms of engagement. Anything about DOGE can be dispensed with a simple “Those 19 year olds accidentally fired 350 nuclear bomb specialists because they didn’t understand what their titles were. Don’t try to tell me the layoffs have anything to do with performance.”
