Keyed-up cops and military told to "subdue crime" in a place where there is not actually that much crime will be more likely to view any and all actions *As Crimes* in order to meet the expectations they hold, and certain people they've been taught to view as inherently criminal will bear the brunt.

What you say could get used against you

The people who literally zombie-swarmed Applebee's in 2020, pressing their face against the glass shrieking, who claimed that being asked to wear masks is a civil rights violation, freaked out over every possible grievance, etc

Are now going "listen, great sacrifices and hardships are necessary"

not to be a "but the founders" guy but one thing the founders had absolutely right is that habeus corpus -- the principle that the government has to justify imprisonment through a process more complex and adversarial than just asserting that someone is bad -- is the foundational liberty we have
The whole point is not just the state disappearing whoever they want, it's you being in the habit of accepting the state choosing whom to disappear, without question. It's submission to the state. Same as with Gitmo after 9/11. The state's judgment must not be questioned.
This should INFURIATE you

The fact that the world’s richest man works at the behest of the executive and can buy out the legislature is massively outside the scope of what the framers could have imagined

there’s is simply no constitutional measure that can guard against something like this

Musk Donates to G.O.P. Members of Congress Who Support Impeaching Judges
Amid a controversy over whether President Trump will abide by court rulings, Elon Musk gave the maximum to the campaigns of Republicans who back ousting judges who impede the administration.

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.
Wired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should follow
As the administration does its best to hide public records from the public, Wired magazine is stepping up to help stem the secrecy

ppl getting angry at this but he's talking alliances and he's 100% right- you cannot trust a country where every 4 yrs the foreign policy does a complete 180 & tears up treaties and reneges on deals and withholds payments because some sheep farmers in Wisconsin think too many black women have jobs
America is over. There is no coming back from this.

If we're lucky maybe we claw back some small-l liberalism for our daily lives. But even that might be too much to hope for.

The rest of the world has to move on from us.

They now know that the American people can't be trusted.

They're right.

i think this is basically what has happened a big chunk of the american pundit class
One of my best friends is from a sleepy, wealthy small town in the south-west of Germany. He said, so many of my parents’ neighbours are rich and bored, with little to complain about, and they’ve radicalised themselves at dinner parties and online. In their aimlessness, they’ve bonded over hate.
This isn’t some rant saying “Germany has learned nothing from its past” - the reality is more subtle than that. Middle-class Germans live and travel with an incredible amount of ease and comfort, and they just got…sleepy. Many of them dismissed the far-right’s rage as just another set of complaints.
