Honestly, seeing a big Fantasy publisher pass on one of my favourite writers' book because of a long unplanned hiatus of a personal nature and because it "doesn't fit the current publishing trend" is making me feel depressed about my chances of ever becoming a traditionally published author.

Communities need used-book shops.

As the trends in our world are increasingly standardized and entrenched by "predictive" technologies that stifle innovation and reduce human actions into economic categories...

We need a full range of possibilities for readers and communities to explore and share.

Commissioning artists always leaves me with butterflies of excitement in my stomach. It's so wonderful to see what they come up with/how they interpret things.

Remember your favorite creator possibly might be struggling with imposter syndrome and doubt and this timeline sucks.. so if you find yourself thinking “wow I really relate to this persons work” or that persons work gives you joy, you should probably tell them. It’s a hard time to be a creative.

I know we know this, but authors need to get better at talking about how they actually make their money. Stop pretending it's from the books.

Elantris is the first book by Brandon Sanderson I’ve read. I chose this book to read, because it fit the ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’ square for the r/fantasy Book Bingo 2025, and I already owned a copy. Plot: Elantris used to be considered heaven on earth; the shining city and its shining inhabitants who used magic freely for all.
