I seem to have pushed myself too hard again, and am now sick. ☠️ I’m kinda mad about it cause I’m an overachieving crazy person. No goals achieved in several days. Rip me.

My friend’s child is into 90’s grunge and came over to my house in 3layers, shirt, hoodie, + over shirt. It was 80 degrees. I got hand it to him for being committed to the look. But also it’s so weird to see this trend resurfacing. Is it because grunge is “dirty and real”? I dunno I’m not modern. 👵

Some people think I'm too hard on movies and TV. I'm not. I ask for 2 things. (I've said it so many times, a beloved writer hero of mine, @annelamott.bsky.social, has even quoted me!) But I think they are good rules, and so often both aren't met. They are:

1. Tell me a STORY
2. Make me CARE
December 28, 2025 at 4:51 AM
This.
But also, I get it. It’s rough out there. Sometimes friends you haven’t talked to in years will hit you up for help. That’s ok. When you’re the the guy who only contacts people about jobs, people can tell though. Also animation people are awesome and worth being actual friends with.
SO, you want to network but don't know where to begin.

1. DON'T. Make friends instead
2. It's not about what they can do for you
3. Famous people are just people first
4. If you do have to gush, don't just say 'i love your work' , pick one thing and say why. Open ended compliments are awkward

Someone messaged me again asking about how to get into animation. My take lately is very the perspective of a bog hag. But I feel like people should understand how things are and protect themselves. I do not recommend paying 200k to go to a full college when the industry is crashed… 🧵

This year was hard, but I’m really proud of what I did. I directed on The Great North and I love what we did. I worked on a show at WB that I think I did excellent cinematic shots and nuanced realistic acting on. I made a Ofmd animatic as a treat which I love. And I was a badass mom to my cool kids.

My Christmas table scape. (It barely tasted of orange!) We all know I’m extra. But mostly, no one does this anymore, so the glasses and silverware I got cheap on fbm or estate sales. So it looks luxe but not so much. Mandarins from family and rosemary from the yard.

“Rain smacked Los Angeles. It splattered on the palm trees, sizzled on the neon, gurgled down the dirty boulevard. The town was sick. They hadn’t seen sunlight in almost a day. But I had the cure. A fifth of magic and a sack full of cold, hard joy. ‘Ho,’ I said once. It was enough.”

Guys say women want alpha male 10-handsome bullshit. What women really want is down bad Bill Pullman chairmaker. (Just being sure everyone is aware of Bill Pullman in While you Were Sleeping. )

It’s Christmas, the best present is telling those you love how much and why you love them.
I think people should make an effort to sincerely tell people who improve their life what they mean to them. Have a boss that really supported you? Tell them that repeatedly. Have a best friend who you love? Tell them in detail how you appreciate them. Love an artist? Tell them why. Life is hard. 🏴‍☠️

I’m totally exhausted from making Christmas magic. Time to watch While You Were Sleeping as a treat. If you haven’t seen it, one of the best rom coms. Bill Pullman’s eye glances are heavy weight class.

I hope everyone has good year end holidays. As we go into a shaky period with the arts in flux and a lot of people are suffering, please never forget the power of your mind, and the joy of engaging in meaningful process. Every day you have the most powerful machine in existence inside your own head.

I often think of this study when debating reaching out to people with gratitude or appreciation. If there's no risk in doing so, it's usually a great idea, and we tend to undervalue it as inciters.

Holy shit… it’s a Christmas miracle. Will we get other cartoons on physical media?!
In physical media news, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will be releasing "OVER THE GARDEN WALL" on Blu-ray on April 7, 2026, per a listing on Barnes and Noble's website. First Blu-ray release of a Cartoon Network original in 10 years.

I got to go to the Nintendo store and angelic pretty store today with my friend. Gave me such nostalgia vibes like when we were in Japan together. I’m extremely excited about my purchase of an animal crossing picnic basket. 😭❤️

Anyone involved in any artistic endeavor should internalize this. Live by it. Get out of bed in the morning for it.
As told by the late dancer and choreographer Agnes DeMille.

Any writing advice audio you can suggest? Extra points if it’s on Libby or free podcast etc!

Ps… I said book on tape in front of my 13 yo and the confused blank stare she gave me crumbled me to dust.

I baked two sets of cookies for my friends I’m visiting… I put them in the cutest fucking carrying container ever (John Derian) and I’m ready to nope the fuck out of here tomorrow and Christmas super hard. Ps, if you’re thinking of robbing me, my super scary muppet dog is staying home.
