Cancer consumes my thoughts (GUNS Trial, RP), runner, fixed gear, herbivore, doomer enthusiast.

Positive, most of the time.
Life's sarcasm, swelling, and urine with constant discomfort.

Never better.

Maybe, I shoulda taken it a little easy on the activity, one step forward, five steps back, and back to work next week.

First day back out and it felt good - 41 days after RP surgery, PSA at 0.07, I'll sleep well tonight.

A last run two days ago before today's RP. It went well - pathology next.

Picked up a new pair of runners yesterday to give me something to look forward to and motivate me through the recovery.

Our oceans are warming. Here is a look at the globally averaged sea surface temperature over the last three months relative to each May-June-July period since 1854.

Total f&%kery is going on with the 3-year running average of the global sea-surface temperature as temperatures continue to trend significantly above "accelerating warming."

There are currently wildfires in every province of Canada. My cousin on Vancouver Island had to evacuate from his home late last week. It's been messing with my head, as someone who grew up in B.C., to think of that normally rainy place burning.

Global sea-surface temperatures are continuing to be record hot compared to any pre-2023 year.

Over the last 3 years, the oceans have warmed on average by the equivalent of 870,000 Hiroshima bombs worth of heat per day.

Everything we've made will break, buildings and streets will crumble, and cities will be abandoned. But the CO₂ we emit into the atmosphere will persist for centuries, and the climatic impacts will last longer than human civilization has existed. This is our legacy for the future.

I think I'm just going to bookmark this @newyorker.com article by @billmckibben.bsky.social and read it whenever I'm feeling sad.

I've read some really depressing articles about climate change in the last few years. But this? It actually gives me hope for the future.
4.6 Billion Years On, the Sun Is Having a Moment

For the record, the anomaly of 6.818 standard deviations in a normal distribution would correspond to an event with frequency of about 1-in-216 billion.

These are not normal times. Collapse incoming.
