Fighting for my patients and fighting for my life
Finally beginning Step 3 prep and I'm...dare I say excited?

It feels weirdly nostalgic to do some practice questions and review concepts for a concrete event on a known date, rather than for the abstract pressure to constantly be ready that I've felt since starting residency.

First day of heme-onc I made the mistake of calling platelets of 48K "marked thrombocytopenia" and I was dragged relentlessly 😭

BIG WIN: If you or a loved one have asthma, you may see the price of your inhaler go down.

I’ve sounded the alarm about companies like Teva rigging the patent system to keep the price of inhalers high.

The FTC is fighting to bring your health care costs down, and winning.

Trying something new this Thanksgiving. I will ONLY be giving out medical advice to my extended family. You want to know how the kids are doing? Too bad Uncle Steve, let’s talk about your prostate instead.

Pertussis in infants is terrifying but it’s not just the cough.

It’s the fact that babies literally STOP BREATHING.

~2/3 of infants hospitalized have apnea (life threatening pauses in breathing)

Vaccination starts at 2 mo so it’s important EVERYONE is immunized to protect our littlest ones.

Call day was *almost* busy enough to let me get my mind off of Election Day. Voted last week, so now all there is to do is wait 😬

Seeing a patient/family at discharge--hopeful but a little nervous, better than at admission but not quite 100%--can be encouraging.

Bumping into them out in public, talking & WALKING & smiling? Absolutely fills my cup. I always always leave those convos with a smile on my face

Coming up for air to say I'm alive, I'm tired, and I'm having fun. 1 month of residency done! Finished with adult inpatient service, now onto NICU to take care of kiddos

Serious medical errors rose in hospitals after they were taken over by private equity firms, although deaths slightly decreased, a new study found. Researchers reported increases in infections, bed sores and patient falls.

One of my favourite stories is a short story I wrote called "Would You Mind Waiting Awhile?".

It's happy sad, and personally what I think might be my best artwork.

Sure feels like if liberals are that scared of Biden losing because he supports and offers denials for an ongoing genocide the best solution would be pressuring him to either stop doing those things or to not run again. Feels like that solves the problem better than screaming at us online to vote.

At Al-Shifa hospital Gaza:

We currently have around 600 inpatients who need medical care.

We have around 37 to 40 premature babies.

We have around 17 other patients in the ICU.

We have around 600 postoperative admitted patients which need medical care.

We need a ceasefire.

The outcome is a huge win for pro-choice advocates in a state where many Republican lawmakers have taken extreme steps to try to ban abortion.

I’m sorry for sounding like a broken record here but if maybe we could bomb less hospitals, that would be rad.
