I may be out of line, but I don't care how broadly folks define "rpg."

Go nuts - hide and seek is an RPG! Nothing is off limits!

I ran a Bridlewood Bay session this weekend.

One of the PCs has Dale Cooper, and my dream scene was maybe the highlight of the session - cool dream sequence; I wish the session had popped a bit more.

We hit layer two and my PCs just happened to research local history in an antique bookstore ...

A stunt vote isn't technically *nothing* so .. .yipee! I guess.

No actual policy wins, but at least there'll be plenty of fodder for the talking heads. Masterful work, folks.
5) Dems showed (a) it's possible to get something out of "shutting down the government" despite what the pundits said, and (b) that they could hold together for 40 days. It's not a policy win, but it changes expectations for what they can do in the future, strengthening their negotiating position.

I don’t care if Schumer voted no. If he’s unable to wrangle the caucus, he’s not an effective leader. I’ll continue to push for the caucus to elect a new one.

This guy's inability to offer a substantive defense of his work and his organization tells you pretty much all you need to know, tbh.
Only if you don't know how to read.

When my little one as 8, his teacher told him he could wear a costume for the school's Christmas music program.

He decided to dress as a vampire.

(Yeah, I know vampires wouldn't wear a cross, but it was his costume.)

Help me out, folks. Am I crazy, or is there something going on here?

You can't convince me this guy isn't intentionally trying to look goofy as hell.

Do this.

But be careful - I've had this setting disabled something like 5 times in the last year and have had to come back in and turn it on.

Idk why/how that's happening, but it does happen.
Alt text is very helpful for a lot of people (myself included) and there's an option to turn on a reminder to include it in the settings. 🖤

This is an interesting and insighful thread.

I have little to add. I don't play OSR games for the most part - I ran a Knave one shot last year; I once played a couple sessions of an OSE game. I rarely get sit around and bs about games w/ folks who take a similar interest in them.
1/ I think you really see this in stuff round "rulings not rules".

It starts with a simple truism - outside a handful of outliers RPG rules are about telling you what you can do, not excluding anything not mentioned.

So you need a way of adjudicating actions outside that framework.
theres this situation that occurs where two people can be talking about ttrpg rules and the role of rules, and the average person in this conversation talks about rules as "the content of the book" while others, especially osr people, use "rules" to mean "the thing telling me what to do"

I expect there's going to be a lot of this but ...

Crossing a picket line means you go *work* in place of striking union members. It means you're a scab.

If the union calls for a *boycott*, we should all honor that. But a strike is not a boycott and does not imply one.

why is this mayoral election different than all other mayoral elections?

in all other mayoral elections, we get to see andrew cuomo lose but once. but in this mayoral elections, we get to see him lose *twice*.

Does anyone understand why the 'R' is backward? Is that supposed to be a stylistic flourish, or is there some intended significance that I'm not picking up on?
Not really a crashout but probably worth putting here for uh, archival purposes

I finished up my October one-shots this past weekend (on Nov 2nd). In the past, organizing 4 one-shot tables in a month has been a source of real stress and angst, but this year it all just fell together.

I've got better at communicating and I've picked up some new organizational tools.

It really sucks these folks keep dying in their beds; I wish it could be different.

You can disable these, at least temporarily. Here's how:

Put a hand near the top of the robot and tip it backwards.
Pivot it around 180 degrees.
Release so it's now facing the opposite direction.
Walk away while it sits there beeping to itself.

If anyone is interested in the sequel to COHERENCE, we finally landed on a story worthy of the mission. Unless the actors revolt, we will probably do it just like the first one, where they know their own character details, but don't know what the other actors are going to say or do. Like real life.

Anti-torment nexus guy is running an experiment to see how bad his invention sucks.
I do hear you, I get why you dislike it, I expected people to dislike it. The question is just like... how bad does it suck, compared to how much does it make the conversations better. Because if it helps, maybe it's worth it

I have a different perspective than most any of you folks. I don't design games; I don't do AP.

I organize tables and run games. I guess in theory I might play games, too, but ... whatever.

I'm in a tiny town. My "growth" is having more players, more GMs, more tables.
At some point, we may even want to consider whether exponential growth of the hobby is feasible and even desirable in isolation. I'm not saying we should go out of our way to put people off. I'm saying I don't actually see the benefits; I'm not a WotC shareholder.

Pigs are fantastic. I have two; they're not pets exactly, but they're not livestock, either. "Pasture decorations" is the term I prefer. They're gonna grow old here.

I didn't have a costume this year, but my kids did some cool work.

The Riddler is all thrifted, except for the mask. The Chara Dreemurr is not thrifted, but is handmade.

R: I'm done w/ my test. It was Language Arts.

Me: Did they ask any good questions? What was the coolest question they asked?

R: It was kinda the same question over and over.

Me: Oh? What question was it?

R: It was all, like, "... what does this *mean*?"
