Major shouts out to @samanthabwriter.bsky.social, whose gift for horror short stories knows no bounds! Also to @lucybluewriter.bsky.social whose THE DEVIL MAKES THREE is perfect. I also absolutely love @judithsonnet.bsky.social's deeply emotionally complex LOW BLASPHEMY!

Q4 - CREDITS

Obviously, we’re staying through all of the credits to acknowledge the work of the artists, the musicians, the designers, the directors…etc.

#HorrorWritersChat - Shout out some of the horror creatives you admire and share what they do.

Stay around for the outro to share your work.

Much to our surprise, they have excellent biscuits & sawmill gravy, cornbread made in a cast-iron pan, and a Devil's Food cake with white chocolate cream cheese frosting. I grew up in Appalachia, and my characters all eat like they're from there.

Q3 - INTERMISSION

Time for a refreshment break.

We head over to the concession stand and discover that all the food and drink are themed on your work.

#HorrorWritersChat - What refreshments are we enjoying and how are they related to your work?

Oh this is absolutely going to be CHILDREN OF SOLITUDE. I even structured it as eight episodes. The part of Lewis Gwan needs to be played by Joel Kim Booster. For Reginald, the other protagonist, I’m going with Wentworth Miller. (And they definitely kiss.)

Q2 - COMING SOON

It’s time for the trailers.

And look #HorrorWritersChat - it’s a trailer for your very own horror work, adapted for the screen. Congrats!

Which work is it?

And which actor is playing your main protagonist, antagonist or fave character? Share your dream cast!

I’m Michael, I write queer cosmic & supernatural horror. Two movies that my writing nods along with: “I Saw the TV Glow” and 2007’s “Cthulhu” (really a retelling of Shadow Over Innsmouth). The weird intrudes on the life of a loner and on an outcast returning “home.” Perfection.

Q1 - DOUBLE FEATURE

Glad you could join our (virtual) cinema trip!

First, let's introduce ourselves and share the horror subgenres we write in.

Now, what are we watching?

Share the two movies/films that have inspired your writing or that capture the vibes of your work.

Love @mcmanlypants.bsky.social 's work, especially his Children of Solitude. @nicolegkurtz.bsky.social wrote a story in her Sisters of the Wild Sage collection that haunts me years later. And if you haven't read @lucybluewriter.bsky.social 's The Devil Makes Three yet, you should! #HorrorWritersChat

TFW something said to me by my own deceased father pops right out of the mouth of the protagonist's father and I realize, oh, *that's* what *this* book is about. Jeez. Another book my therapist will have to read, I bet. Heh.

Memo to self: OK, but what if this book kind of *is* a mirror image of Children of Solitude, but with a completely different emotional flavor, and instead of just being "Jesus I hate the people who raised me and everything they believe" it's more like "I could be mad or I could fix the future"?

A good point as well -- having more kids puts more burden on women, removing them from the work pool and, in the mind of this administration at least, forces them into subservient family service.
