In 1947 in Everson v. Board of Education, the Supreme Court held that the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment applies to state and local governments. All nine justices believed that the Establishment Clause was meant to create a wall that separates church and state.

Not our current SCOTUS.

Our allies for a century all hate us, but at least the rulers of Saudi Arabia and Qatar appreciate how easy it is to get what they want from our govt, and appear to enjoy our president’s willingness to trade US govt policy for personal enrichment. So we have some friends.
