I won't wade into the marsh in which this conversation is currently going on, but I'm happy to note that the first thing a twenty-first-century publishing entity does on receipt of a manuscript and to prepare it for eventual publication is to yank out every single double space after a period.

Metrolinx was looking at a new track east of Union Station (north side of the corridor) to Corktown Common. Apparently there was community uproar. Seeing this rendering, I don't blame them. If you're changing the space, you can't make it a cold utilitarian lane like this. Placemaking must happen.
